The Role

Our college is actively looking for a dedicated Technical Officer – Butcher/Slaughterman to join our team. This role primarily involves managing the daily operations of the College abattoir and butcher shop. Key responsibilities include slaughtering, processing, and packing meat, as well as ensuring meat is scanned into and out of the stock management system. Maintaining and implementing the HACCP plan is crucial for food safety standards.

In addition to operational tasks, the successful applicant will play a role in training year 11 and 12 students on-the-job, delivering and assessing Certificate II in Agriculture units, and ensuring compliance with Workplace Health and Safety requirements. This involves not only imparting knowledge but also inspiring and motivating students to develop their skills and reach their potential. The position also entails supporting general agricultural activities such as cropping and livestock production systems.

The ideal candidate should possess strong employability skills and be capable of working effectively within a team. This includes demonstrating qualities such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, time management, and initiative. Although holding a current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is desired, the college can fund and support a suitably qualified applicant to obtain this upon commencement.

On top of the Level 1, 2, and 3 salary packages stated, an additional 150 hrs overtime per year is paid fortnightly as part of the Technical Officer salary package and this is used during rostered weekend duties and as required and agreed on by the Manager and Technical Officer.
