Join Our Team: Protect, Serve, and Make a Difference!

We are the Rural Fire Service (RFS), a dedicated community of volunteers providing fire and emergency services to approximately 95% of NSW. When you work with the RFS, you join a passionate team committed to protecting our neighbours, the wider community, and the environment from the threat of bushfires and other emergencies. With over 70,000 volunteer members and staff, we embody the spirit of mutual respect, support, friendship, and camaraderie. We are one team with many players, united by a single purpose. If you share our passion for community service and environmental protection, we want to hear from you! Become a part of our mission to safeguard lives and our cherished NSW landscapes.

About the Project

The RFS is working towards the delivery and rollout of field-based technologies such as Mobile Data Terminals (MDT’s) and Starlink Satellite connectivity across 5000 operational appliances. These technologies will enable two-way, real-time communication of operational intelligence between members in the field and Incident Management Teams. MDT’s will communicate with existing RFS systems (e.g. CAD, ACTIV & ICON), improving dispatch and response capability.

A Field Deployment team of 11 has been established to undertake the project. This team will be responsible for supporting the MDT program, and installing Starlink satellite systems as part of the vehicle connectivity solution.

About the Role

An exciting opportunity to join our Field Deployment Team as a Senior Field Technician, responsible for coordinating, contributing to, and overseeing high standards of quality craftsmanship and professionalism in the installation of mobile technology into the NSW RFS operational vehicle fleet.

Extensive travel across NSW will be required to support project rollout timelines. The successful candidate will be provided access to an RFS vehicle and tools of the trade (including laptop, mobile phone, installation and servicing equipment etc). Accommodation, meals, and an incidentals allowance will be provided whilst travelling for RFS business, in line with NSW Government and RFS Policies.

There is potential for the role to be based in any location across NSW that has a NSW RFS Fire Control Centre, Area Command, or other major RFS facility – however, this will be discussed and negotiated with the successful candidate.

The Ideal Candidate

As our ideal candidate, you'll have a Diploma or Trade Qualification in a relevant discipline, or equivalent expertise, alongside experience in auto-electrical, mechanical or communications systems roles, which provides you with an understanding of the installation, maintenance and support requirements of various types of technology which may be used by the NSW RFS in the field.

The commencing salary will be considered in alignment with skills and experience.
