We are currently seeking an experienced and dynamic Interim Legal Counsel to join a leading energy company based in Melbourne. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled legal professional to provide crucial support during a period of high demand within the organisation. The role will run for 8-10 weeks with an immediate start.
Client Details
My client is an international energy company with offices in Melbourne CBD. They have a variety of energy generation sites, as well as retail energy business. The General Counsel sits on the Executive and there is a dedicated in-house legal team that provides legal advice to all areas of the business.
Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Legal Advice on Commercial Contracts: Provide timely and effective legal counsel regarding a range of commercial contracts, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Collaboration with Compliance Managers and Legal Team: Work closely with the compliance managers and fellow legal team members to ensure that all company activities comply with applicable legislation.
- Matter Management System: Respond to and provide legal feedback on queries raised through the company's matter management system, offering quick and clear advice to internal stakeholders.
- Project Legal Advice: Provide proactive legal support to executives and key decision-makers on various ongoing and new projects, ensuring alignment with company objectives and regulatory requirements.
- General Legal Support: Offer general legal advice across various departments and assist with other ad-hoc tasks as needed during the contract period.
Profile
- A law degree and relevant legal qualifications, along with admission to practice law in Australia.
- Ideally over 10 years' experience as a Lawyer with experience in in-house environment.
- Proven experience in providing legal counsel within commercial contracts, general corporate work and regulation. Experience in the energy or utilities sector is advantageous but given the immediacy of the role, this is not a pre-requisite.
- Strong understanding of regulatory compliance and experience in managing legal issues related to large-scale projects.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to provide clear and concise legal advice to non-legal stakeholders.
- Experience using matter management systems is highly desirable.

- Competitive day-rate;
- 3 days on site sitting with team and working with Legal, Compliance, Commercial and Finance teams to provide legal advice.
- 8 week contract - potential extensions.
