About the Role
As the Pathways Program Officer, you’ll play a pivotal role in developing, implementing, and managing programs that create meaningful career pathways for students. Working closely with schools, employers, families, and communities, you will help young people navigate their options and secure successful futures.
Reporting to the Pathways Program Manager, your key responsibilities will include:
Program Implementation & Delivery:
- Designing, implementing, and evaluating career development, education, and workforce training programs that are tailored to the unique needs of students across diverse communities in the APY Lands.
- Delivering workshops, information sessions, and one-on-one mentoring to guide students through the transition from school to further study or employment.
Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Building:
- Cultivating and maintaining strong partnerships with schools, employers, local businesses, training providers, and community organisations across the APY Lands to enhance career pathways and opportunities.
- Working with local stakeholders to create culturally relevant and community-appropriate educational and employment pathways for young people.
- Engaging families and community leaders from the various APY Lands communities to ensure their involvement in students' career development and educational decisions.
Student Support & Advocacy:
- Providing personalised support to students from diverse backgrounds, identifying barriers to success, and linking students to the resources and opportunities they need.
- Advocating on behalf of students to ensure they have access to the right tools, networks, and opportunities to transition successfully into further study or the workforce.
- Offering guidance on resume building, interview preparation, and job search strategies to ensure students feel confident and well-equipped to enter the workforce.
Mentoring & Post-Placement Support:
- Providing ongoing mentoring to students during work experience placements and after transitioning into paid employment across the APY Lands. This includes regular check-ins, addressing challenges, offering career advice, and connecting students with additional resources to support sustainable, ongoing employment.
Monitoring & Reporting:
- Regularly tracking the progress of students within the program, evaluating program success, and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Maintaining up-to-date records and reports on student progress, program outcomes, and stakeholder engagement.
About You
To be successful and start helping others to achieve their goals, you will have:

- Have a deep understanding of the historical and social context of Aboriginal cultures, particularly those in the APY Lands, and be able to approach cultural differences with respect, sensitivity, and a focus on empowerment.
- Demonstrate an ability to work effectively in cross-cultural settings, with experience working in remote Aboriginal communities highly desirable.
Adaptability & Flexibility:
- Be adaptable to changing conditions with a flexible attitude, understanding the dynamic nature of remote community work and the challenges of working in a cross-cultural environment.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout the APY Lands and to work in challenging conditions.
Practical Skills & Qualifications:
- Hold a valid ‘C’ class driver’s licence (with 4WD experience preferred) and be comfortable navigating remote areas.
- Hold or be able to obtain a positive Working With Children Check and National Criminal History Check.
- Above all, you will demonstrate resilience, honesty, integrity, diplomacy, and a sense of fairness in all your professional interactions.

Whilst not essential, the following attributes will be highly regarded:
