The successful candidate must have flexibility in their hours. Hours will be casual as required (minimum 3 hour shifts), shift will vary between Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. However, afternoon availability is essential.
Candidates who have experience (minimum 3 years) in clothing/retail and cash handling will be highly regarded.
The Rockhampton Grammar School was founded in 1881 and is an independent co-educational day and boarding school, educating and caring for students from Prep to Year 12, as well as the Early Learning Years and is Queensland’s largest boarding school. The Rockhampton Grammar School has achieved great success in the academic, cultural, sporting and vocational fields over the past 144 years. POSITION TITLE: Shop Assistant
DEPARTMENT: Red and Black Shop
HOURLY RATE: $30/hour
COMMENCEMENT: As soon as possible.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Daily duties include:
- Greeting customers who enter the shop;
- Assisting shoppers to find the goods and products they are looking for;
- Answering queries from customers;
- Giving advice and guidance on product selection to customers;
- Being responsible for dealing with customer complaints and concerns;
- Processing customer refunds;
- Processing cash and card payments;
- Balancing cash registers with receipts;
- Reporting discrepancies and problems to the Manager;
- Assisting with unpacking stock, stock control and management;
- Attaching price tags to merchandise on the shop floor;
- Receiving and storing the delivery of large amounts of stock;
- Working within established guidelines, particularly with brands and uniform policy.
- Processing second hand consignment stock;
- Assisting with the processing, packing and postage of online orders;
- Assisting with the fitting of uniforms during try on appointments;
- MYOB experience preferred but not essential;
- Any other tasks assigned by the Shop Manager.

REQUIRED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a clothing/apparel/retail role with experience in stock and cash handling.
- Desired experience in working in a fast paced environment with the ability to think and solve problems quickly during busy periods.
REQUIRED LICENCES/CERTIFICATES
- Working with Children Check;
- Police Check;
- Safeguarding Children Checks.
SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE
The School takes child protection seriously, and as a staff member or volunteer of The Rockhampton Grammar School, you are required to meet the behaviour standards outlined in our Practice and Behaviour Guidelines. You will receive a copy of these guidelines as part of the induction process.
Therefore, as a part of your duties and responsibilities, you are also required to:
- Provide a welcoming and safe environment for children and young people;
- Promote the safety and wellbeing of children and young people to whom we provide services;
- Ensure that your interactions with children and young people are positive and safe;
- Provide adequate care and supervision of children and young people in your charge;
- Act as a positive role model for children and young people;
- Report any suspicions, concerns, allegations or disclosures of alleged abuse to management;
- Maintain valid “working with children” documentation;
- Undergo periodic “national criminal history record” checks;
- Report to management any criminal charges or convictions you receive during the course of your employment that may indicate a possible risk to children and young people;
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The successful applicant will be subject to a “Working with Children Check and Criminal Records Check” where applicable. The School undertakes several screening processes to ensure the appropriate protection of children and young people in its care. This includes reference checks, identity checks qualification check and professional registration checks.
