In this newly created role at BHFLHN, you will collaborate to implement the patient flow strategy, ensuring effective demand management. You will oversee daily patient flow escalations, providing critical support to maintain system efficiency and improve patient outcomes.
About the Role
The Director Patient Flow is accountable to the Executive Director Operations for operationalising the Barossa Hills Fleurieu Local Health Network (BHFLHN) patient flow and winter demand management strategies. The incumbent is expected to use clinical knowledge and experience to provide a strategic approach to access and flow management, working collaboratively with Executive, Directors of Nursing and Midwifery, Directors of Community & Allied Health, and Clinical Leads. The Director Patient Flow may deputise for the Executive Director Operations as required.
The Director of Patient Flow will assist Directors of Nursing and Midwifery in activity management ensuring targets are met. This applies to flex bed utilisation, length of stay monitoring and related capacity and demand factors. In conjunction with the Directors of Nursing and Midwifery, the Director of Patient Flow will develop and drive a culture of safety and quality improvement that ensures patient focused care is provided, ensuring processes are developed and implemented which allow patient outcomes to be monitored and audited with a view to continual improvement.
The Director Patient Flow will be responsible for the Regional Operations Centre (ROC) and the coordination function of metropolitan to regional hospital repatriations (for all regional LHNs) and facilitating access to community services including but not limited to supported discharge services, priority outpatients and Transition Care Program, to enable reduced length or stay and prevent unnecessary hospital admissions.
