HOBAN Recruitment is seeking an experienced APS5 Fraud Investigator to join a high-profile federal agency based in SURRY HILLS SYDNEY NSW.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the protection of crucial government programs, working within a collaborative team that conducts complex investigations into internal and external payment fraud.

About the Role:
In this important position, you will play a key role in detecting and investigating potential fraud, ensuring processes align with Australian Government Investigation Standards. You will work closely with internal teams and external partners to support the delivery of high-quality investigative outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting complex and sensitive criminal investigations using your Certificate IV in Government Investigations (or equivalent).
  • Conducting interviews, preparing statements and affidavits, and managing sensitive evidential material.
  • Preparing case documentation and briefs of evidence for referrals to the Australian Federal Police and the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions.
  • Providing expert advice on policies and legislation relating to fraud and misconduct.
  • Representing the agency and providing evidence in criminal and civil court proceedings.
  • Contributing to process improvements and helping to refine workplace practices.
  • Assisting with the execution of search warrants, including domestic travel and occasional overnight stays.
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to resolve moderately complex to complex enquiries.

About You:
We are looking for motivated, skilled professionals who thrive in investigative environments and have strong communication and analytical skills.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Certificate IV in Government Investigations (or equivalent qualification).
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting criminal investigations, including interviews and evidence collection.
  • Strong understanding of Australian Government Investigation Standards.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policy, legislation and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare detailed reports and briefs.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to manage sensitive information with discretion.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and work extended hours when required.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
