  • Applications are sought from former and current serving law enforcement officers, Defence personnel and applicants with relevant industry experience to join our team of Operational Safety Training Instructors.

You will plan, develop and implement operational AFP programs focusing on developing the necessary skills, knowledge and values required by AFP appointees. Your focus will be to effectively deliver AFP outcomes and satisfactorily perform a range of AFP functions.

Our team's primary responsibility is to deliver operational safety training to recruits, in-service members and external agencies. You must therefore have a passion and proven ability to coach, guide and mentor participants whilst creating and maintaining a positive adult learning environment.

Our team is a key pillar of the Learning and Development Command, centrally coordinated in Canberra with offices in all AFP regional commands Australia wide.

We work in a high tempo environment and you will be expected to support our regionally based teams around Australia as required. You will be required to travel to various locations for short periods (typically 1-3 weeks) as directed by your supervisor

What will you do?

  • You will consistently conduct approved AFP operational safety training, including but not limited to firearms, electrical weapons, batons, restraints, defensive tactics, chemical agents, trauma training and threat assessment reality based training.
  • Coach, mentor, guide and support training program participants.
  • Create a positive adult learning environment that is student outcome focused.
  • Maintain accurate training records of participant progress and outcomes.
  • Maintain subject matter currency and training expertise through ongoing professional development outside the formal education process.
  • Continuously improve and adapt to new or emerging training techniques and technologies.

Essential Requirements:

  • You must be an Australian Citizen at the time of application.
  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Possess contemporary operational safety training knowledge and experience relevant to the role.

Desirable Requirements:

The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:

  • Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (TAE 40116) or the ability to obtain one. If successful, we will support you attaining this qualification.
