The Aviation Infrastructure and Technology Lead is responsible for overseeing the management, maintenance, and strategic development of aviation-related infrastructure and technology within the Aviation Services Unit. This role encompasses the management of airbases, ensuring they are maintained to the highest operational standards and aligned with the organisation's strategic objectives.
As the Asset Class Manager for the airbase asset class, the Aviation Infrastructure and Technology Lead ensures that all airbase facilities, including Large Airtanker Bases, are fit for purpose, compliant with safety and regulatory requirements, and capable of supporting the organisation's aviation operations. This role involves the ownership, embedment, and sustainment of airbase asset management practices as documented in the Asset Class Management Plan, and leadership of the airbase Improvement Action Plan. The role also includes the annual set-up, running, and close-out of the Large Airtanker (LAT) program within Victoria, including infrastructure set-up, contractual negotiation, and management of support services.
The Aviation Infrastructure and Technology Lead is tasked with driving innovation in aviation technology, developing long-term investment frameworks for airbase infrastructure, and working closely with other IRD and Forest Fire Operations teams to ensure asset management practices deliver value to the organisation. The role also plays a critical part in using data, information, and intelligence to recommend and implement business and program improvements and ensure that operational documentation is kept up to date.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- Proven experience in aviation, with demonstrated understanding of the complexities of the aviation industry and aerodrome operational environment, logistics principles as it relates to the aviation infrastructure and support for the delivery of aviation services
- Strong understanding of and experience in infrastructure and/or asset management, including a good understanding of asset lifecycle, asset management frameworks, and risk-based decision-making as it relates to asset management
- Proven experience in business planning, governance, performance analysis, evaluation methodologies, monitoring and reporting with an aviation/aerodrome/asset management environment.
This is an ongoing position. The work location for this position is flexible within Victoria (office based at 8 Nicholson Street, East Melbourne) with hybrid work arrangements available.
