About the role
We are seeking a self-motivated, empathetic Peer Practitioner for a permanent, part-time (30.4 hours/week) opportunity to join our new service in Caboolture. In this role, you will utilise your lived/living experience of mental health and/or alcohol and drug challenges to walk alongside young people, providing intensive, person-centred, and recovery-oriented support. You will empower service users to identify their goals and take steps toward recovery, while championing the voice of lived experience.
The role requires flexibility to work within a 24/7 rotating roster, including night shifts, weekends, and sleepovers.
About the service
This new service is designed to support young people aged 16 to 21 as they transition from an acute mental health setting to community living or to prevent further hospital admissions. Operating in a homelike environment with 24-hour access to staff, young people are supported to achieve their recovery goals, strengthen relationships with families and carers, develop social connections, and build capacity to live safely in the community.
Key responsibilities
- Draw on the broader Lived Experience knowledge base to inform your practice.
- Support young people to return to their community, live independently and pursue a meaningful life using the Intentional Peer Support approach.
- Deliver high-quality services to respond to the unique needs of the service users, offering a flexible and person-centred approach.
- Plan and deliver group programs that develop skills and focus on recovery goals.
- Collaborate with a range of services and assist individuals in navigating systems and connecting with community agencies to address barriers to social, educational, and employment participation.
What you’ll bring
- Completion of Intentional Peer Support Core and/ or Advanced Training, or Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, is desirable but not required.
- Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) are required in Mental Health, Peer Work, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) or other health related field as designated by Mind.
- Previous experience using lived experience in a dedicated Peer role, with a focus on working directly with people with mental health issues and their families/carers.
- Hold a current First Aid and CPR certificate and perform these duties as required as part of the role.
- Ability to provide a record of Vaccination Preventable Diseases (or able to obtain vaccinations) against Covid-19, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Chicken Pox, Whooping Cough, Hepatitis B or other diseases as required by our Partnership with QLD Health.
