Employment Opportunity

The Junior Solution Architect is a role within Information Division's Chief Technology Office (CTO), providing specialist knowledge to design and deliver quality outcomes to internal and external stakeholders. This role provides a growth opportunity for the successful applicant to move into solution architecture.

The successful applicant is expected to participate as part of the core CTO team and will proactively engage with the current and future challenges of the CTO space. The role involves working with Information Division and broader AGD colleagues to ensure quality solutions are recommended to our stakeholders.

The successful candidate will:

  • Coordinate solution investigation by working closely with production teams to understand existing capability and/or implement new capability.
  • Obtain business capability requirements which includes conducting analysis of existing work processes and practices.
  • Contribute to the development of architectural artefacts including but not limited to patterns, roadmaps, current & future state designs and high level & details designs.
  • Review research reports and make recommendations on suitable technology in line with requirements and the department's technical environment.
  • Proactively engage with current and future challenges in the CTO space.
  • Participate in the department's technology adoption frameworks.
  • Keep informed of industry trends, government initiatives and technology innovation.
  • Other tasks as directed by management.

How you can help us make a difference

The following skills, attributes and/or experience is desirable:

  • Strong demonstrated background in one or more ICT streams such as infrastructure, applications development, networking, security and cloud.
  • Experience in business analysis and workflow creation with proven ability to deliver quality outcomes.
  • An ability to contribute productively to technical discussions.
  • Willingness to learn from experienced solution architects.
  • Experience in investigating and evaluating technology.
  • Experience in influencing solution designs, including facilitation of solution implementation.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to collaborate with a cross-discipline team of engineers, management, customers to contribute towards designing and implementing innovation solutions.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Cloud technologies such as Microsoft 365, Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services.

Relevant certifications or tertiary qualifications in an ICT or related field will be highly regarded but are not considered mandatory.

The Affirmative Measures (Indigenous) process is open only to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people who meet the criteria below. The filling of this vacancy is intended to constitute an affirmative measure under Section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975.

To be eligible to apply for this role, you must:

  • be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent and/or identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
  • be accepted by community as being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

Confirmation of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander heritage will be required prior to the finalisation of the selection process. The department will consider allowances in some circumstances, however evidence of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander status is likely to include the following:

  • a letter signed by the Chairperson of an incorporated Indigenous organisation confirming that the applicant is recognised as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person
  • a confirmation of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent document executed by an Indigenous organisation.

Note: The need to provide confirmation of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander heritage is not required as part of the application process.
