Strathalbyn Racing Club is one of South Australia’s most picturesque country race clubs, established in 1922 and surrounded by rolling hills, scenic valleys, and renowned vineyards. Position Overview

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Track Manager / Curator is responsible with their team for the maintenance and preparation of the racecourse, training tracks, and grounds. This leadership role requires a hands-on professional who values teamwork, safety, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate all aspects of track and grounds preparation for race meetings and training in consultation with the CEO and team.
  • Implement and uphold WHS standards, SafeWork SA’s Code of Practice, and SRC policies to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Apply expertise in turf management, including irrigation, fertilisation, herbicide application, and surface renovation programming.
  • Lead, supervise, and support outdoor staff (casual and permanent).
  • Maintain the racecourse, training tracks, and club grounds to the highest standards.
  • Perform and oversee repairs and maintenance of buildings, structures, and assets to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Operate, maintain, and service irrigation systems and machinery efficiently.
  • Manage budgets and expenditure in liaison with the CEO.
  • Stay updated on industry advancements and innovations in turf management.
  • Work with the Trainers and various stakeholders in providing a great Training Track Environment.
  • Maintain all horse areas and holding stalls to the highest WHS standards
  • Manage a budget and all Track costs.
  • Maintain all assets and infrastructure, for long term sustainability.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to foster teamwork and collaboration.
  • Strong experience in turf management, grounds maintenance, and track preparation.
  • Sound understanding of WHS regulations and SafeWork SA compliance.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience in record-keeping and documentation related to track maintenance.
  • Worked closely with our Trainers and various Stakeholders.
