SMC Executive are partnering with this diversified Australian Financial Services organisation to identify an exceptional Senior Financial Accountant to join their Group Finance team.

The role will provide expert knowledge of business processes, Financial Control and Statutory Reporting support and will play a key role in delivering the reporting obligations for the Banking division.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Manage the preparation and review of statutory and regulatory reports, ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards, laws and regulations.
• Prepare accounting position papers and perform analysis on changes in financial reporting requirements together with ad-hoc accounting advice when required. This includes accounting policies, accounting estimates and judgements, recognition and measurement of financial instruments, related party transactions and financial risk management.
• Support financial control through managing operational accounting processes to ensure data integrity, and that adequate internal controls are in place related to the governance of the ledger for reporting and analytical requirements.
• Prepare balance sheet accounts and reconciliations and assist in the monitoring of liquidity and cashflow analysis.
• Preparation of Audit Committee and Board Reporting.
• Ensure all deadlines are met on a timely basis. This includes the accurate and timely closure of accounting records at month-end and the timely delivery of all reporting deliverables for month-end and other key reporting periods.
• Plan and prioritise tasks, particularly around half yearly/yearly financial reporting periods, in order to meet various deliverables and achieve optimum output.
• Maintain a continuous improvement mindset in improving efficiency and eliminating risks to the business.
• Act as a trusted adviser to key internal and external stakeholders including the external auditors.

Candidate Experience

• CA/CPA qualified 5+ years’ experience within banking/financial services in a similar role, possibly initially gained in a Big 4 Chartered Accounting environment
• Demonstrated experience in the preparation or audit of statutory and/or regulatory financial reports.
• Extensive knowledge of accounting standards and statutory / regulatory reporting requirements relevant to the role.
• Extensive experience in the use of financial systems, databases, internet applications, Excel and Word.
• Highly developed report writing with an ability to succinctly communicate issues.
