About Us:

At Trim Carpenters we specialise in heritage restoration and period home carpentry, where attention to detail is our hallmark. Based on the North Shore in Sydney, we are looking to grow our team due to the large amount of exciting work that has come our way.

Currently our work is 95% site-based (on sites throughout Sydney), but we have plans to open our own joinery shop within the next 5 years. Our past and current projects have included some of the most important sites in Australia's colonial history and we take pride in our meticulous restoration work.

We love what we do and take immense pride in restoring the past and creating the future.

Examples of Previous Works:

• Rouse Hill Schoolhouse - Restoring the external timberwork of one of the most important sites in the birth of the colonies in Australia.
• St Peter and Paul's Old Cathedral - Reconstructing the decorative timberwork on the Fleche, with breathtaking views over Goulburn.
• Ashfield Belltower - Reconstructing the roof frame and timberwork after it was damaged by a lightning strike, starting work every morning with uninterrupted views of the sunrise over the city.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a passionate and incredibly hardworking experienced carpenter who takes pride in their work. This is a perfect opportunity for someone who loves old architecture and timberwork and wants to develop their skills in heritage restoration and finish carpentry. It’s an ideal role for a carpenter looking to pivot from residential carpentry, into the niche but in demand area of heritage restoration with varied and incredibly rewarding work. You’ll be putting your hands to work on some of the most historic buildings throughout New South Wales.

This is a casual position with ongoing work available until July 2025, with the possibility of full-time employment or open for subcontractor for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

• Execute precise restoration work on heritage projects, including the current restoration of all of the internal timberwork from a significant Sydney heritage building.
• Perform detailed carpentry/joinery tasks, ensuring accuracy and adherence to historical integrity.
• Repair, replace, and replicate intricate timberwork, mouldings and architectural details.
• Use traditional woodworking techniques and hand tools to restore and recreate period-specific features.
• Conduct thorough assessments of timber structures to determine restoration needs and methods.
• Collaborate with our team to deliver high-quality craftsmanship on some of the most historic buildings in New South Wales.
• Maintain a clean and organised work environment, ensuring all tools and materials are used safely and efficiently.

Essentials:

• Minimum 1-2 years post apprentice experience in the industry
• Interest in heritage restoration
• Positive attitude and enthusiastic with a strong work ethic
• Keen eye for detail
• Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a team
• WHS white card
• Drivers license and own transport
• Basic woodworking tools and cordless kit plus nailbag

Non-Essential:

• Experience with heritage work or traditional joinery techniques - you will learn this on the job
