About the Role:
In this meaningful role, you will provide tailored one-on-one career counselling to help young people identify and achieve their career goals. Working closely with school-aged early school leavers, you will deliver targeted outreach and guidance, focusing on those at risk of disengagement.
As the CAS Practitioner you will deliver professional and proactive careers counselling and course and career advice in the Skills and Jobs Centre. You will liaise with schools, parents, carers and school aged early school leavers. Your role will include providing one-on-one counselling sessions as well as delivering work readiness workshops in schools and Community Services organisations.
Duties:
- In this meaningful role, you will provide tailored one-on-one career counselling to help young people identify and achieve their career goals. Working closely with school-aged early school leavers, you will deliver targeted outreach and guidance, focusing on those at risk of disengagement.
- You will conduct initial check-ins to understand students’ aspirations, needs, and preferred support methods, and support young people in building their capacity and capability for smooth transitions into education, training, and employment pathways.
- Collaborating with stakeholders, you will design and implement career education activities and employability programs, as well as contribute to career expos, job fairs, and workshops that enhance youth employment outcomes. Guided by the CAS delivery guidelines, you will deliver youth-focused, qualified career advice that makes a tangible difference in the lives of young people.

Skills and Experience Required:
- A relevant Bachelor’s degree or Graduate Certificate in Career Development/Counselling and/or 5+ years’ experience in a specialised career counselling role.
Have experience working with school-aged young people, including Koorie young people and young people with disabilities - Knowledge of career development theory and practice, with experience in individual careers counselling, including 4+ years of evidenced theory and practice implementation.
- Demonstrable knowledge of the labour market and the TAFE and Community Services sectors.
- Experience in motivating and influencing people in relation to sensitive issues or towards a particular course of action.
- High level interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with wide range of customers from a range of cultural backgrounds.
