The office of the Hon Sussan Ley MP is seeking applications for a full-time, non-ongoing position (with the opportunity for further extension), Electorate Officer based in Albury, NSW.
The key duties of the position are, but are not limited to:
- Function as the first point of contact with constituents and other visitors to the Electorate Office.
- Building and maintaining strong community group and stakeholder engagement relationships.
- Responding to constituent enquiries, including research, written correspondence, standard responses, and telephone enquiries.
- Assisting constituents with information on Commonwealth Government programmes, grants and funding.
- Data entry and database management.
- Assisting with election and local campaign activities.
- Flexibility with work hours and the capacity to occasionally attend after hours events.
- Interstate and intrastate travel as required.
- Other duties as directed.
The ideal applicant should possess the following skills and experience:
- An ability to engage and communicate with a broad range of people
- Organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple and competing work tasks and deliver to agreed deadlines
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills
- Familiarity with current computer systems, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
- Strong sense of professional conduct and discretion, particularly with regard to managing sensitive constituent matters
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
- Be resourceful, self-motivated, and oriented towards solutions
- Preparedness to undertake travel within Farrer Electorate and to Canberra as required
Additional requirements
- The position may be required to work flexible hours, including occasionally outside of standard business hours and weekends, to ensure continuity of service to the Federal
- Member. The position includes additional Electorate Support Allowance in recognition of work outside standard business hours.
- Please note a C Class Drivers’ License and use of a vehicle is essential.
- Previous experience in an Electorate Office or an understanding of the Australian political system and parliamentary processes is preferred, but not essential.
Employment conditions:
The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Enterprise agreement 2024-27 | Ministerial and Parliamentary Services which include:
- A commencing salary will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.
- An additional optional allowance may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work.
- Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).
- An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.
Applicants should note the following:
- The successful applicant may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.
- An initial probationary period of three months will apply and may be subject to extension.
- The successful applicant will be required to comply with their obligations under the Behaviour Codes and Standards.
