In this one-of-a-kind opportunity, you'll be a team to be a driving force behind the success of the Corporation and the Wajarri Yamaji community. With a clear mandate to influence the Corporation’s strategic initiatives, you will have the chance to lead projects that directly support the aspirations and goals of the Wajarri Yamaji people, all while working within a dynamic and impactful team.
WYAC is seeking the right person who aligns with our values and strategic direction. This position is offered on a 6-month contract with a view to extend. We are looking for a visionary leader ready to make a meaningful impact.
Wajarri Yamaji Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (WYAC) is the Prescribed Body Corporate (PBC) for the Wajarri Yamaji people of the Gascoyne/Murchison Region of Western Australia. The Wajarri Yamaji Native Title determination is one of the largest in Australia.
WYAC has an Indigenous Land Use Agreement (ILUA) with the CSIRO and Commonwealth Government in respect of the Square Kilometre Array Observatory (SKAO), an international effort to build the world’s largest radio telescope on Wajarri Yamaji Country. The ILUA is an important relationship between the Wajarri Yamaji People and SKAO partners.
About the role
Wajarri Yamaji Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC is seeking a dynamic and experienced Deputy Chief Executive Officer to join their team on a contract basis. Based in Geraldton, Western Australia, this key leadership role will be instrumental in driving the Corporation's strategic initiatives and supporting the achievement of its mission and objectives.
What you'll be doing
- Providing strategic leadership and operational oversight to the Corporation's activities and programs
- Collaborating closely with the Chief Executive Officer to set the organisation's vision and priorities
- Managing a diverse portfolio of projects and initiatives, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with stakeholder needs
- Overseeing the development and implementation of policies, procedures and systems to support efficient and effective operations
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, partners and the local community
- Identifying and pursuing new business and funding opportunities to support the growth and sustainability of the Corporation
- Providing mentorship and guidance to the wider leadership team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence
What we're looking for
- Extensive experience in a senior leadership role, preferably within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community sector or a similar environment
- Proven track record of driving strategic change and implementing innovative solutions to complex challenges
- Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders
- Strong financial acumen and experience in managing budgets, securing funding and ensuring sustainable operations
- Demonstrated commitment to the principles of self-determination and community empowerment
- Thorough understanding of the legal, regulatory and cultural frameworks that apply to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, such as business, management or public administration
