Established in 1864, Prahran Market is a vibrant and iconic destination for food lovers and culture enthusiasts alike. Now, excitingly, we’re about to undergo a new wave of transformation to create the ultimate market experience.

Prahran Market is looking for a new Head of Finance & Property to be a part of the team delivering the new vision, master plan and business plan for this vibrant community and shopping experience.

The Head of Finance & Property is a key member of the executive team and the right hand person to the CEO. But this is no ordinary finance role and we want more than a good spreadsheet!

In addition to finance-based responsibilities, this person will need to:

• Engage with shoppers, traders and the community
• Love food, love the market vibe and enjoy all of the things that make up a real market experience
• Engage and be effective in managing key stakeholder relationships including the Board, Council and other authority bodies

The core functions of this role are to:

• Ensure our core finance functions are simple, efficient and enable the business to deliver positive commercial outcomes
• Work collaboratively with traders and stakeholders for mutually beneficial outcomes
• Work with the CEO and Board to help shape a transformational business plan and investment rationale to support the future vision
• Operate with a spirit of fun (markets are anything but boring)

WHAT WILL YOU DO ?

• Finance & Management accounting
• Retail Leasing administration and strategy with the CEO
• Financial Governance
• Provision of Business Intelligence and oversight of business performance
• Information Technology
• Property Accounting
• Annual budget and cashflow planning
• Board management and company secretarial duties
• HR Administration including payroll, policies and contracts
• Business case development to support vision and capital investment
• Grant & funding applications
• Capex & Project management
• Council reporting
• Legal contract and commercial arrangements
• Enterprise risk assurance (Audit & Risk) and Company Secretarial duties

WHO IS THIS MAGICAL PERSON?

Whilst it is quite likely that the successful applicant will come from a larger scale retail business, hospitality or property background, that experience is not essential.

Ideally, we would love:

• Experience dealing with larger scale retail and/or customer facing businesses
• Single site or multi-site operational experience
• Knowledge of leasing, retail tenancies, debtors and leasing administration
• The interpersonal skills to engage customers, traders and all key stakeholders
• Commercial lease negotiation experience
• Financial, budget and project CapEx responsibility
• Experience in business case development and investment rationale
• A curious mind & a lover of food and markets

This role is “full on“ and the right person will work closely with the traders across the week and including selected weekends when the market is buzzing.
