Your Opportunity:

The Statewide Child Sexual Abuse Response Project will ensure trauma-informed, streamlined, and timely service delivery statewide and provide ongoing consultation, education, and formalised peer review for regional, rural and remote sites around Queensland. The service will align with the newly developed Sexual Assault Services Framework (the Framework), for children under 14 years.

The position of Senior Medical Officer will:

  • Provide high level specialist Child Protection paediatric services within a tertiary setting as part of the Statewide Child Sexual Abuse Response to ensure the provision of high quality, safe and family centred care within CHQ HHS and for designated outreach when required.
  • Core clinical duties include:
  • Perform acute forensic medical assessments – sexual assault and assessment and documentation and interpretation of physical injuries
  • Demonstrated competence with colposcopy in relation to sexual assault medical assessments
  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders with relation to forensic cases, for example QPS (Queensland Police Service), DCYJMA (Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural affairs)
  • Prepare forensic medical reports and provide evidence in court as an expert witness as required
  • provide high level, evidence-based child protection advice as the designated Child Protection Advisor –as core clinical work when on intake and as the core QH representative at SCAN (suspected Child Abuse and Neglect) meetings
  • clinical outpatient duties as part of our OOHC (Out of home care) clinics
  • Registrar supervision and teaching
  • Attendance and participation at relevant team meetings (inclusive of peer review meetings)
  • Good working knowledge of child protection legislation and mandatory reporting requirements, trauma informed frameworks and an understanding of working with people from a First nations/ CALD background
  • Participation in out of hours on call roster

The Child Protection Specialist will work collaboratively across departments, and work as a member of the clinical team. They will provide specialist child protection expertise and advice for patients of all departments, in conjunction with the relevant surgical/medical specialists and the broader interdisciplinary team.
