Mackay Regional Council is seeking two enthusiastic Sport and Recreation Development Officers to be part of our dynamic team.

About the Role

Reporting to the Team Leader - Sport and Recreation Development, you will be instrumental in:

  • Developing and implementing strategies to enhance community involvement in sport and recreation.
  • Supporting the planning and development of facilities and services that align with community needs.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to deliver strategic initiatives in line with council objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage community programs, events, and partnerships that build capacity.
  • Provide expert advice and support to sport and recreation groups on club and facility management.
  • Contribute to policy development and strategic planning.
  • Oversee budgets, funding applications, and resource allocation.

Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

We are looking for a proactive and innovative individual with:

  • A qualification in Sport and Recreation, Community Development, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience delivering sport and recreation programs or facilitating the development of facilities.
  • Understanding of sport and active recreation trends.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, research and problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Paid QLD Working with Children Blue Card - It is an essential requirement for this position to hold a Working with Children Blue Card. Under Queensland legislation, you must hold the Blue Card prior to commencing employment - No Card, No Start policy. Desirable:

  • Experience in recreation planning, sport and recreation facility development and/or management.
  • Knowledge of local government operations or experience within a similar role in a government setting.
  • Familiarity with funding and grant processes for community projects.
