Townsville Catholic Education Office, is currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Cyber Analyst . This is a Full Time, Permanent position, commencing 31 March 2025.Please note, this role is located in the Townsville City Office which is in Denham Street.
About the role
As a Cyber Analyst within the Cyber Safety and Security Team (CSS) within the Information Technology and Services Team (ITS), this role is crucial in protecting TCE’s digital infrastructure, data, and IT resources and improving safety for Students and Staff from cyber threats. The Cyber Analyst will play a key role in ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of TCE’s information assets by developing and implementing robust security measures, policies, and protocols.
Working closely with the ITS, People and Safety and Student Protection teams, the Cyber Analyst will assist with the development and implementation of safety and security strategies, policies, procedures, standards, and investigations. This includes installing, configuring, maintaining and monitoring cyber security tools. The role also involves performing system and device hardening on TCE technology and information assets, and networks.
The Cyber Analyst will be responsible for developing and leading incident response efforts to minimize the impact of security breaches, investigation support to other teams, and provide continuous improvement suggestions. This includes managing third-party providers, conducting regular compliance audits, and maintaining the cyber security risk register. Additionally, the Cyber Analyst will coach the ITS team and provide input on training and compliance efforts.
Reporting directly to the Team Leader, Cyber Safety and Security, the Cyber Analyst will stay informed on the latest security threats, trends, and technologies, providing timely advice to TCE. The successful candidate will also be responsible for inducting and informing employees on security best practices and policies, ensuring a secure and responsible IT environment for all TCE staff and students.
Key Accountabilities
- Assist in the development and implementation of cyber safety and security policies, procedures, and standards to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of TCE’s information assets.
- Install, configure, maintain, and monitor cyber safety and security tools.
- Perform system and device hardening on TCE technology and information assets, ensuring compliance with security best practices.
- Develop and lead incident response efforts to minimize the impact of security breaches and ensure timely recovery of critical systems and data.
- Provide investigation support to other teams and contribute to forensic IT activities.
- Conduct regular compliance audits to identify and remediate non-conformances.
- Maintain the cyber safety and security risk register, ensuring risks are identified and controlled effectively.
- Collaborate with third-party providers to procure and implement cybersecurity services, projects, and initiatives.
- Coach and mentor the ITS team on security standards and configurations.
- Provide input on cyber safety and security training and awareness programs for TCE staff and students.
- Stay informed on the latest cyber safety and security threats, trends, and technologies, and provide timely advice to the Team Leader, Cyber Safety and Security.
- Develop and prepare analytical reports regarding the organisation’s cybersecurity status.
- Respond to cyber safety and security-related queries and issues from within TCE.
- Promote continuous improvement of cybersecurity processes and practices.
- Perform other duties as reasonably directed by the Team Leader, Cyber Safety and Security.
Experience
- Minimum of three years’ experience in ICT roles, with a strong focus on cybersecurity.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing cybersecurity measures, policies, and protocols
- Experience in incident response and managing security breaches.
- Familiarity with conducting compliance audits and maintaining risk registers.
- Experience in collaborating with third-party providers for cybersecurity services.
Knowledge
- In-depth understanding of cybersecurity principles, protocols, and best practices
- Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks (such as ISO 27001, NIST, CIS Controls) and relevant regulations.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity tools and technologies for system and device hardening.
- Understanding of incident response processes and forensic IT activities.
- Awareness of risk management strategies and compliance requirements.
- Knowledge of training and awareness programs for cybersecurity.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a range of stakeholders.
- Ability to coach and mentor team members on cybersecurity standards and practices.

Mandatory Criteria
- Minimum tertiary qualifications at Diploma level or equivalent qualifications/experience relevant to the position
- Intermediate to advance user of MS suite especially excel
- Working with Student Card
- Current Driver’s Licence
- Ability to travel from time to time within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner.
Desirable Criteria
- PRINCE2 6th Edition Accreditation
- ITIL v4 Accreditation
- Tertiary qualifications in a related field
- Experience in the education or Catholic sectors
