On this occasion, we have been asked to assist our colleagues in the City of Canterbury-Bankstown with a key Environmental Engineer vacancy. This role will commence ASAP and run for a minimum of 12 months before likely being extended to even transitioning to a permanent role with Council.
The role itself is focused on Legacy Landfill investigations and management, in the Council area. In particular, your role will see you coordinate the management of closed landfill operations including the coordination of site monitoring and leachate treatment plant operations. In doing so, your day-to-day tasks will be wide-ranging, including:
- Analysing environmental data and provide technical advice on data provided
- Pro-actively identifying and reporting adverse conditions or environmental hazards; propose environmental improvements; plan and implement interventions in consultation with Coordinator Landfill Operations
- Supporting the development and implementation of management plans and procedures for closed landfills within the CB City LGA.
- Arranging cost estimates and obtain quotations for minor project works; reconcile and process invoices and manage project documentation
- Responding to enquiries, write reports and correspondence, prepare business case documentation
- Developing and maintaining co-operative relationships with internal and external stakeholders including the EPA
- Responding to environmental incidents including the notification of relevant stakeholders Communicate as necessary with all workers regarding environmental management issues

- Degree in Environmental Engineering or related discipline
- Demonstrated understanding of environmental management systems (ISO 14001)
- Demonstrated experience in the management of environmental compliance
- Demonstrated knowledge of surface water and sediment control techniques
- Knowledge of the Protection of the Environment (Operations) Act 1997 Protection of the Environment (Waste) Regulations and NSW regulatory framework for managing wastes.
- Demonstrated Experience in the Waste Management Industry, specifically landfill operations, and environmental auditing experience is desirable
