About CASWA
The Council of Aboriginal Services Western Australia (CASWA) is dedicated to strengthening the Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO) sector in WA by supporting self-determination, cultural authority, and sector development. CASWA works closely with ACCOs to ensure Aboriginal-led solutions drive systemic change, particularly in areas such as justice, health, housing, and child protection.
About the role
The Child Safe Senior Project Officer will work with the Child Safe Program Manager and other CASWA team members to implement the Child Safe Community Services Project, in partnership with the Department of Communities and other key stakeholders. This project supports the capacity-building of ACCOs and other community service organisations to embed the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations in a culturally safe and sustainable way.
This role is integral to ensuring that Aboriginal community-led child safety initiatives are embedded across WA’s community service sector. The Child Safe Senior Project Officer will provide training, support, and resources to ACCOs, engage with stakeholders, and facilitate child safety implementation in line with Aboriginal cultural values and priorities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Support Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) in developing and implementing culturally appropriate child-safe policies, frameworks, and practices in alignment with National Child Safe Principles.
- Deliver workshops, training sessions, and one-on-one support to build child safety capacity in Aboriginal organisations, including engagement with regional and remote communities.
- Facilitate stakeholder engagement through community consultations, advisory groups, and knowledge-sharing forums, advocating for Aboriginal-led solutions in child safety.
- Contribute to policy analysis, research, and reporting to inform government and sector stakeholders on the progress and impact of child safety initiatives.
- Assist in developing culturally tailored child safety resources and coordinate cross-sector knowledge-sharing of best practices.
To excel in this role, you will have:
- Strong understanding of National Child Safe Principles and their application in Aboriginal Community-Controlled settings, with knowledge of child protection legislation and best practices.
- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal organisations and communities to deliver culturally responsive programs.
- Excellent facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build relationships across Aboriginal organisations, government agencies, and community service providers.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience in policy development, report writing, and project documentation.
- Relevant tertiary qualification and/or professional experience in social services, child protection or community development, with a willingness to travel regionally throughout Western Australia.
What you'll get in return
While you will face diverse new challenges in the role, you will also enjoy an attractive remuneration package including a competitive base salary of $97,645.32 - $99,745.64 per annum pro rata plus superannuation.
