About the role

The Student Matters role, located on our Sydney campus, focuses on delivering exceptional pastoral care and support to students within the National School of Health Sciences across both Fremantle and Sydney campuses. This position encompasses addressing students' academic, social, financial, cultural, and health needs. To achieve this, the role involves active engagement with a diverse range of stakeholders, including academic staff, the Student Engagement and Success team, counselling services, and Student Administration, both within the school and the broader University community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert academic analysis and advice to students regarding academic progression, academic standing and pathways to major/minor/specialisations and pathways to postgraduate degrees within the School
  • Deliver high-quality research-informed teaching into relevant foundational courses within the Programs offered by the School
  • Provide high-level pastoral care and support to students with respect to financial, social, cultural, personal, physical and mental health needs during their studies; and referring appropriately to student services, academic support services and other services offered by the University
  • Provide expert academic advice to Head of School in relation to potential academic integrity/misconduct and other matters such as AHPRA notifications/ fitness to practice
  • Leading and supporting academic research/scholarship projects related to pastoral care and the student experience
  • Meeting regularly with and supporting the Program and Clinical Coordinators and the Head of School in relation to matters regarding student welfare or progress
  • Working with the Indigenous Office to provide targeted and specific academic support, and pastoral care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students within the School
  • Participating in information events, orientation, enrolment and other events and functions related to students, academic progress and pastoral care
  • Ensuring coherence in function between Student Matters position on each campus and aligning future direction/strategy for this position across both campuses

Qualifications, skills & experience
