Position Overview

We’re seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Cafe manager to lead our retail team at Black Market Coffee Marrickville. This is our roastery HQ and requires our A Team to deliver on our brand promise to deal positivity, everyday. In this role, you will provide expert training and mentorship to staff and be the face of our busienss in Marrickville. You will work barista shifts and coordinate the daily ops required of a cafe manager to a high level.

Management Skills

• Passion for leading a small team
• Knowledge of rostering, we use Deputy
• Hitting KPIs and meeting with Ops manager weekly
• Holding training sessions with staff
• Organise staff get togethers

Coffee Skills Required

• High level barista skills
• Dialling in Single Origins
• Fast paced espresso and milk service
• Advanced latte art

Customer Service Skills Required

• Exceptional hospitality skills
• Casual but professional service approach
• Ability to express knowledge on coffee flavours and profiles
• Make coffee and bean recommendations to customers

Key Responsibilities

On Bar Shifts

• Perform qulaity barista shifts for 34 hours each week, executing the SOPs to a high level
• Plan and conduct engaging and informative training sessions for staff so they can perform the SOPs
• Complete the admin tasks of rostering, finance and stock control within 4 hours over the week

Mentoring and Support

• Provide ongoing mentorship and guidance to staff, addressing their specific challenges and helping them develop their skills.
• Foster a supportive and encouraging learning environment, promoting growth and confidence in coffee preparation.

Event Coordination

• As our space is the home of our roastery & training company, we host events to promote the hospo industry and its positive vibes. You will be an active player in this

Marketing

• Particiapte in content shoots and provide feedback on the brand
• Work with the ops manager to develop new business in the neighbourhood

Customer Interaction

• Demonstrate excellent customer service and professional interaction during shifts.
• Address any feedback or questions from staff with professionalism and expertise.

Operational Support

• Support the development of internal training initiatives and contribute to overall team development.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a specialty coffee barista with a strong grasp of coffee preparation and customer service.
• Experience in training or educational roles is highly desirable.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to tailor training to different skill levels and needs.
• Passion for coffee and a commitment to sharing knowledge with others.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 12kg ( a box of coffee or crate of milk).
• Capable of managing the physical demands associated with training sessions and café environments.
