We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Planning Cadet to join our team and contribute to the effective planning and development of the Council. In this role, you will gain valuable hands-on experience in assessing development applications, assisting with strategic planning, ensuring compliance with planning regulations, and supporting our planning team. - Salary based on Local Government State Award 2023, T5 – T8 $1092.10 - $1194.60pw (Range is based on full time employment.
- Flexible working arrangements, 25-35 hours per week, 9 day fortnight
- University fees covered up to $11,000 per year

Position Overview
This cadetship is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring planner currently undertaking a tertiary qualification in land use planning. As a Planning Officer, you will play a key role in assessing development applications, assisting in strategic planning, and ensuring compliance with planning regulations within the Kyogle Local Government Area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and process development applications in accordance with planning legislation.
- Assist in the preparation of Local Strategic Planning Statements, Local Environmental Plans, and Development Control Plans.
- Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with approved development conditions.
- Investigate unauthorised developments and assist with enforcement actions.
- Provide technical advice and prepare reports on planning and development matters.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams, community stakeholders, and government agencies.
- Contribute to a workplace culture of performance, integrity, and continuous improvement.

To be successful in the role, you will need:
- Be currently enrolled in an accredited land use planning course.
- Have strong communication skills to engage with stakeholders and the community.

- Be eager to develop your career in local government planning.
