About the Role

WorkPac is seeking a Specialist HSE Officer to oversee health, safety, and environmental (HSE) compliance for complex projects in high-risk environments such as oil & gas, marine, and industrial maintenance. The role involves managing site safety for large workforces, ensuring adherence to industry regulations and company policies, and driving proactive safety culture initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and enforce HSE compliance on-site, ensuring adherence to industry regulations and company policies.
  • Conduct site inspections and risk assessments, with a focus on specialized access techniques (rope access, scaffolding, welding, etc.).
  • Monitor and report on high-risk activities including blasting, welding, and maintenance tasks on jetties.
  • Work with a back-to-back HSE Officer on a 2:2 roster, ensuring continuous safety oversight throughout the project duration.
  • Facilitate pre-mobilization safety briefings and toolbox talks to reinforce safety protocols.
  • Lead incident investigations, near-miss reporting, and root cause analysis to drive safety improvements.
  • Provide guidance and training to site personnel on hazard identification, emergency response, and safe work procedures.
  • Maintain accurate HSE documentation, ensuring reports, permits, and compliance records are up-to-date.
  • Engage with stakeholders at all levels, including project managers, site supervisors, and subcontractors, to maintain a strong safety culture.
  • Coordinate FIFO personnel mobilization from Perth, ensuring accommodation for 60+ workers on-site.
  • Implement proactive safety initiatives aligned with Vertech’s values, fostering a "people first" safety mindset.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Experience in HSE roles within high-risk environments such as oil & gas, marine, or industrial maintenance.
  • Familiarity with specialized access techniques and safety protocols.
  • Strong understanding of risk management, incident investigation, and compliance reporting.
  • Proficiency in SAP for HSE reporting and documentation.
  • Previous experience in FIFO roles, managing site safety for large workforces.
  • Knowledge of Rio Tinto specifications and processes is advantageous but not essential.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills to foster a proactive safety culture.
  • Ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels, from frontline workers to senior management.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, high-demand environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
