About the firm

Located just a short drive from Brisbane’s CBD, this well-established accounting firm has built a strong reputation and an impressive client base. With two Directors and a team of 15, they’re planning for the future and looking to bring on two new Directors in the coming years; one to lead their advisory division and another to oversee compliance. The firm operates from a modern yet office in an inner-city suburb and maintains a low staff turnover, hiring only experienced professionals to ensure stability and expertise within the team.

About the role - Director, Advisory

The firm generates its revenue primarily from two key areas; tax and business services compliance, and business advisory. This role is entirely advisory-focused, offering the opportunity to step into a leadership position within a well-established firm.

Joining as either a Senior Manager or Director (depending on experience), you’ll take on the following responsibilities, with full ownership expected within 12–18 months:

• Lead the advisory division, overseeing $1M+ in advisory fees, managing a team of three, and contributing to billings
• Oversee all basic advisory work coming from the compliance team
• Manage high-level advisory engagements, including M&A, due diligence, financial modelling, financial analysis, and commercial advisory
• Provide external CFO services

Beyond the core advisory duties, you’ll also:

• Play a key leadership role in the firm, contributing to strategic planning, workforce development, and overall profitability
• Ensure the firm maintains a strong reputation with its client base
• Support and mentor staff as needed

This is long term opportunity where you will eventually become a 25% equity holder within the accounting firm.

The successful candidate

The firm is looking to recruit a highly experienced accountant to join their team. The successful candidate might come from an external CFO background in an accounting firm, a business services accounting background with extensive experience in advisory or a commercial accountant with experience in the role of Financial Controller or CFO.

• Degree qualified and CA/CPA qualified
• 10+ years' experience in an accounting firm, commercial accounting or both
• Permanent Resident or Australian Citizen
• Leadership capabilities and the goal to become a business owner in an accounting firm
• Experience in M&A advisory and financial modelling
• Excellent communication skills and high attention to detail
• Commercially minded with strong problem-solving skills
• Ability to build strong working relationships

What is on offer

• Your total OTE could increase to around $350,000 after 3 years and $450,000 after 5 years

• An initial salary package of $210,000 - $245,000
• An initial 10% equity offering after 12 months and then 25% within an agreed timeframe
