ABOUT SCHREURS & SONS

Established in 1963, Schreurs & Sons is a family owned and operated market garden, specialising in the production of celery, leek and baby leaf. Our produce is supplied throughout Australia, the Middle East and S.E. Asia.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION

Primary Purpose

  1. Assist with day-to-day running of the Food Safety and Quality Management Systems.
  2. Assist in making sure the company has the systems and processes in place necessary to ensure all products sent out meet legislative and customer requirements – this includes both at the farm level but also in the Packing Shed / High Care Facility.
  3. Alert the Technical Director, company Board of Directors and Managers of any significant risk affecting food safety or quality.
  4. Provide the company with technical support wherever necessary.
  5. Be the Substitute SQF Practitioner.
  6. Responsible to oversee the Technical Director’s activities, as required, in their absence.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure requirements of the food safety and quality management systems and customer requirements are documented, implemented and maintained.
  • Stay up-to-date with any changes to relevant legislation, food safety and quality standards and developments within the industry including (but not limited to) FSANZ, SQF, Global G.A.P and HARPS. Inform the company of any changes and update the Quality Management System (QMS) accordingly.
  • Drive a food safety and quality culture leading by example.
  • Conduct regular internal audits to ensure compliance to the QMS.
  • Prepare the company and undertake external third party audits as required.
  • Conduct supplier audits where necessary.
  • Establish and implement training programs to cover off functions that affect product legality, food safety and quality, and inform staff of their responsibility to report food safety and quality issues to senior staff.
  • Maintain the Approved Supplier Program.
  • Maintain the SDS database and register.
  • Assist in product development activities including new product launches.
  • Drive the transition to the online QC checks for the Operations Department.
  • Collect and monitor laboratory-testing program. Interpret results and discuss with the Technical Director of any atypical results.
  • Assist with the Verification and Calibration schedules.
  • Assist in monitoring the Controlled Documents and create Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs) relevant to the QMS.
  • Support the Production and Operations Managers by providing technical training to employees as requested.
  • Lead the investigation into non-conformances and customer complaints, conducting the root cause analysis and ensuring effective corrective actions are implemented.
  • Member of the HACCP and Recall Teams.
  • Initiate and drive continuous improvement activities.

Qualifications & Experience

  1. Excellent English communication skills with all levels within the business, both verbal and written
  2. Spoken fluency in another key worker language such as Vietnamese, Thai, Khmer, Albanian or Indonesian would be advantageous.
  3. Tertiary qualification in Food Science, Agri-Sciences or equivalent.
  4. Minimum 2 years’ experience in a QA or similar role in the food manufacturing industry preferred.
  5. Experience in internal, external and supplier audits are welcomed.
  6. Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office product is required.
  7. Graduates welcome to apply
  8. Current HACCP Certification (highly advantageous)
