An opportunity exists to join our dynamic learning community and to support Padua College's vision for the future as a Science Laboratory Technician within the Science Department. This is offered on a full-time hours during the school term only basis to commence ASAP.

Working under the direction of the Head of Science, the Science Laboratory Technician ensures that the laboratory environment is safe, well-maintained, and conducive to effective science education. This role involves assisting teachers by preparing laboratory setup, maintenance, and ensuring the availability of necessary equipment and materials for science experiments and demonstrations.

The key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Preparation and set up equipment, instruments, and materials for science experiments and demonstrations in accordance with risk assessments.
  • Provide support during practical laboratory sessions, ensuring students adhere to safety protocols and guidelines when required.
  • To use Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and Risk Assessment Sheets on Hazardous chemicals.
  • Maintain laboratory records, poisons register, material safety data sheets in various software or hard copy.
  • Recording, controlling purchasing records and completing stock takes.
  • Manager care and maintenance of the laboratory materials and equipment. This includes microscopes, balances and glass ware etc.
  • Use a range of Microsoft Suite software in the preparation of resources and presentations for the department.
  • Maintain records for animal ethics requirements.
  • Properly handle and dispose of chemical waste according to established safety and environmental protocols.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Science or similar discipline.
  • Previous experience as a Laboratory Assistant.
  • Permanent work rights with no restrictions.
  • Extensive experience in the use of computers, Microsoft Office programs, email and internet application.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, particularly the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Strong knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety policies and animal Ethics Guidelines.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
