ABOUT US

Australian Veteran Health Services (AVHS) is a unique, multi-disciplinary medical service designed to assist former and current Defence personnel plan their transition from military to civilian life. As a medical service that was established by Veterans for Veterans, we aim to complement established medical and ex-service organisations by assisting with DVA Claims, Permanent Impairment Assessments, Veteran Review Board (VRB) reports and ADF Transition Medicals.

For many of our veterans the prospect of applying to receive compensation through the Department of Veteran Affairs can be daunting. As a Veteran Support Claims Officer, you will assist our veterans in navigating the various stages of the claims process.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Due to continued growth and increasing demand for our services, AVHS is expanding our team! As a Veteran Support Claims Officer, you will be the first point of contact for veterans engaging with AVHS. You’ll guide them through the complex claims process, ensuring a smooth, efficient, and compassionate experience. Working closely with internal teams, you’ll play a vital role in connecting veterans with the support they need.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Engage & Guide – Make initial contact with veterans, explaining processes and documentation requirements.
  • Triage – Triage to ensure a tailored support pathway and priority is given when required.
  • Communicate & Collaborate – Provide clear, empathetic communication via phone and email, keeping veterans informed.
  • Liaise & Organise – Work with internal and external stakeholders to streamline claims and assessments.
  • Manage Correspondence – Handle emails, documents, and reports from veterans, the Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA), and other key partners.

  • Strong communicator – Ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal) with all stakeholders

  • Highly organised – You thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Tech-savvy – You’re proficient in Microsoft Suite and can quickly learn new systems.
  • Collaborative & independent – You work well in a team but can also take initiative.
  • Problem-solver – You have strong analytical skills and can navigate complex processes with confidence.
