The Organisation
The Canberra Rape Crisis Centre (CRCC) is a non-government, feminist organisation working to eliminate sexual violence against women, young people, children and men. Our Mission is to be an active, visible catalyst for social change through the provision of high-quality services within a feminist framework.
We provide confidential counselling and support for victim survivors of sexual violence and their families who have experienced any form of sexual assault and/or sexual harassment recently or in the past, and practical support for victim survivors who have experienced childhood sexual abuse or ritual abuse, recently or many years ago.
We arrange immediate crisis appointments and provide a 24-hour crisis callout service through the Forensic & Medical Sexual Assault Care (FAMSAC) and/or Sexual Assault & Child Abuse Team (SACAT) services.
Our Crisis phone support is available from 7am until 11pm, 7 days a week.
Job Summary:
The Clinical Programs Director will provide clinical oversight and leadership to a team of Crisis Counsellors and Counsellor Advocates, ensuring the highest standards of care are maintained in the delivery of counselling services and crisis support. This position will involve both direct clinical work with clients and supervision of clinical staff, with a focus on continuous professional development and ensuring that services meet the organisation’s goals and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Leadership & Supervision:
- Lead and oversee the clinical team, ensuring the effective, trauma-informed, and compassionate delivery of services.
- Provide regular clinical supervision, guidance, and professional support to counsellors, fostering a collaborative and positive work environment.
- Ensure adherence to ethical standards and best-practice guidelines in client care.
- Offer expert advice and direction on complex or high-risk cases.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the clinical team.
Client Care & Therapeutic Support:
- Provide high-quality counselling, crisis intervention, advocacy, and support to victim-survivors of sexual violence and their non-offending supporters.
- Oversee and assess client progress, ensuring treatment plans are evidence-based, trauma-informed, and adaptable.
- Develop and implement therapeutic interventions and treatment programs.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, external agencies, and service providers to support holistic client care.
Service Development & Quality Assurance:
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of counselling services, using feedback and evidence-based practices to drive improvements.
- Contribute to the development and review of policies and procedures to enhance service delivery.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, policies, and organisational standards.
- Maintain accurate records of clinical supervision, case notes, and other relevant documentation.
- Report all WHS risks, complex issues, client complaints, and staff risks to the CEO immediately.
Organisational & Administrative Responsibilities:
- Set priorities and monitor workflow within the team to ensure effective service delivery.
- Write reports for external bodies, including subpoenas.
- Represent CRCC in meetings, forums, and events, particularly in trauma, therapeutic frameworks, and victim response.
- Develop and maintain external networks/partnerships to support client and organisational outcomes.
- Keep counselling and crisis staff informed of changes to work practices, service requirements, and sector developments.
- Serve as an emergency contact on a rotating roster, ensuring availability to address urgent issues as needed.

Qualifications:
- Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA-Clinical);
- Social worker registered with full AASW membership;
- Registered Psychologist with AHPRA (General) .
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Counselling from an accredited institution.
- Counsellor registered with either the Australian Counselling Association (Level 3 or above for Senior roles);
- Accredited Clinical Supervisor with a minimum of two years of supervisory experience.
- Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams across counselling, crisis intervention, education, and community engagement programs.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience applying trauma-informed frameworks in the context of sexual assault.
- Expertise in complex trauma treatment and intervention.
- Strong knowledge of child safety standards and relevant legislation.
- Demonstrated experience in management and leadership roles.
- Experience facilitating therapeutic groups.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time.
- Evening and weekend work as required.
- On-site or external locations as required.
