Maintenance Fitter – full time opportunity

Gundagai Meat Processors (GMP) is a dynamic meat processing business owned and operated by the Barton family ideally located halfway between Sydney and Melbourne on the Hume Highway in the Riverina - a prime lamb growing region.

We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled tradesperson to join our Maintenance team. GMP has a purpose-built maintenance shed for the team that makes working enjoyable while working with a top team of individuals. The Maintenance Fitter is responsible for ensuring the proper function and upkeep of mechanical equipment and machinery across Gundagai Meat Processors (GMP). This role plays a critical part in maintaining the safety, quality of product, reliability, and efficiency of equipment, ultimately contributing to the overall productivity of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on all mechanical equipment, including but not limited to conveyors, chains, motors, and production machinery.
  • Work with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical failures promptly to minimise downtime. Identify issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement effective solutions.
  • Identify system faults and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Ensure that machinery and equipment are calibrated and aligned correctly to maintain precision and accuracy.
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns, troubleshoot and fault find promptly and efficiently to minimise productions delays.
  • Repair and service faulty equipment and replace worn or defective parts as needed, following manufacturer specifications and industry best practices.
  • Assist in the installation, assembly, and commissioning of new equipment and machinery.
  • Light fabrication work.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships.
  • Reporting and recording data.
  • Ensure compliance to all GMP Quality policies and procedures, standards, and standard operating procedures for manufacture.
  • Proactively work within WHS and QA policies and procedures.
  • Identify workplace improvements.

Position Requirements:

  • Engineering Trade Qualification (Mechanical Fitting – Mechanic / Diesel Fitting also encouraged to apply), including a Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or a Certificate IV. At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for a qualification.
  • A great attitude, proactive nature, and great problem-solving skills.
  • Organised with attention to detail and a good work ethic.
  • Strong communication skills – verbal and written.
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Willingness to learn and upskill.
  • Current C class driver’s license.
  • Available to work overtime, weekends (where required) and future on-call duties.
