Biomedical Technology Services provides a comprehensive health technology management, service and support capability to Hospital and Health Services and other parts of Queensland Health through the state-wide delivery of biomedical engineering, diagnostic medical physics, and radiology support services
Your key responsibilities
- Preparing technical specifications.
- Undertaking technical and performance assessments of equipment.
- Evaluating technical aspects of tender responses, including preparation of high-level reports to be included in evaluation analyses.
- Acceptance testing new equipment to ensure compliance with specifications and relevant safety standards prior to clinical use.
- Coordinate and participate in quality control programs and radiation protection programs with minimal supervision for diagnostic imaging modalities to ensure optimum performance and safe radiation levels.
- Provide high-level technical advice in the purchase of diagnostic imaging and associated systems. This advice may include:
- Coordinate and participate in quality improvement activities and scientific research and development, primarily in the areas of new or improved diagnostic imaging techniques and radiation safety associated with clinical requirements.
- Provide high-level advice with respect to Queensland radiation safety legislation, national and international standards, and the scientific literature.
- Produce high-level scientific reports for approval prior to internal and external publication.
- Engage in professional development activities as would be required to achieve or maintain Radiology and/or Nuclear Medicine Medical Physicist registration with the Australian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM).
- Contribute high level diagnostic imaging medical physics clinical advice in the development of professional standards in areas of expertise.
- Provide high-level advice under broad supervision (decreasing as experience grows) to clinical departments, regulatory bodies and other government agencies in relation to radiation protection requirements, imaging system performance, clinical software and information systems, and general asset management of diagnostic imaging technologies.
- Provide high level training and education to medical officers, nurses, and health practitioners (including physicists) in diagnostic imaging technology, radiation safety and protection, and quality assurance practices.
- Provide supervision, training and support to fellow team members, including clinical practice supervision.
- Communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including clinical staff, equipment suppliers, service providers, team members and managers, to achieve service delivery objectives.
- Coordinate and participate in the development and continual improvement of diagnostic imaging practice and radiation safety.
Key competencies (role specific criteria)
- High level knowledge, expertise and skill in diagnostic imaging medical physics.
- Ability to apply scientific knowledge, solve non-routine practical problems and achieve defined outcomes related to diagnostic imaging medical physics.
- Ability to contribute positively to achieving defined goals in a team environment.
- High level oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to convey medical physics principles and concepts to others.
- Leadership within a work unit, including developing and implementing quality improvements.
