FULL JOB DESCRIPTION:
About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accounting Analyst to join our client on an agency contract until June 2025, with the potential for an extension. The successful candidate will work full-time from 8 AM to 5 PM with a one-hour lunch break. This role is ideal for an individual with strong financial accounting expertise who thrives in a collaborative environment and is capable of managing complex reporting and project tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct assistance to senior management on statutory financial reporting and ensuring compliance with legislative requirements.
- Manage ongoing and ad-hoc projects to support reporting requirements, optimize processes, and improve overall financial efficiency.
- Conduct high-quality financial analysis and contribute to financial solutions for the organization.
- Prepare comprehensive financial reports and recommendations including Statement of Financial Activity, Statement of Cash Flows, Rate Setting Statement, and Statement of Financial Position.
- Assist in the preparation of Annual Reports, mid-year reviews, and Long-Term Financial Plans.
- Provide advice and support on financial asset management, statutory reporting, and audit coordination.
- Conduct financial analysis for the development of performance indicators, benchmarks, and strategic financial plans.
Financial Functions:
- Advise the organization on financial asset management and statutory compliance.
- Coordinate documentation for external audits and ensure timely responses.
- Contribute to the preparation of the City’s Annual Financial Reports, mid-year reviews, and budget.
- Ensure compliance with Australian Accounting Standards, Local Government legislation, and relevant financial accounting laws.
- Prepare sections of statutory documents, such as Agenda and parts of Annual Reports.
Strategic and Business Planning:
- Provide financial analysis to support business planning and identify emerging opportunities.
- Contribute to the annual budget process, particularly on financial asset management and financial planning.
- Advise on the access and management of restricted funds such as Reserves and Trust funds.
Management Responsibilities:
- Mentor and coach junior staff, including graduates, within the team.
- Manage major projects, including cross-functional initiatives, to tight deadlines.
- Actively participate in improving team skills and contributing to team development.
Specialist Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong competency in analyzing complex financial data and trends.
- Proven ability to prepare complex financial statements and manage audit requirements.
- Expertise in computerized financial systems and project management.
- Ability to work independently and deliver efficient, effective financial solutions.
Judgement and Problem-Solving Skills:
- Highly developed business analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to drive process improvements and develop solutions to complex issues.
- Excellent report writing skills, with the ability to provide clear recommendations.
Interpersonal and Teamwork Skills:
- Ability to engage and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead and manage cross-functional projects and initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach staff, fostering skill development and team cohesion.
