About Our Organisation:
Youth Off The Streets is a not-for-profit youth organisation that provides safety, support and opportunities for young people to build a positive future. We offer crisis accommodation and housing services, alternative high school education, alcohol and other drugs counselling, youth justice support, life skills and employment programs, cultural support and community engagement, among other services. We focus on early interventions that empower young people and strengthen communities.
The Role:
To provide Intake and assessment and supported referrals to young people experiencing homelessness or risk of in the inner west area of Sydney. To maintain appropriate data collection and documentation of assessment information in the IWYHS CIMS system.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the IWYHS intake phone line and electronic referrals, completing initial assessments to ensure a no wrong door approach and offer the most effective service response based on need, risks and service capacity
- Identify referral gaps and opportunities, and develop and maintain mutual referral pathways
- Maintain intake, referral and assessment data records in IWYHS CIMS system
- Provide support and input as a member of the case work team to assist program development and professional development
- Meet agreed performance targets
- Promote and maintain a safe and friendly environment for young people and stakeholders
- Promote youth participation in line with YOTS organisational culture
- Consult and collaborate with stakeholders to identify, develop and implement effective and meaningful activities and programs
- Support and advocate on behalf of young people as deemed appropriate
- In collaboration with IWYHS Team Leader Case Work and IWYHS Team Leader Crisis Accommodation make decisions about referrals in line with program level agreement, and centred on the needs of young people
- Provide supported referral where IWYHS is not the most appropriate service
- Ensure young people’s documentation is accurate, appropriate and secured
- Provide monthly reports on key Intake data to IWYHS Team Leader Case Work to inform monthly management reports
- Participate in regular YOTS staff meetings
- Ensure YOTS policies and procedures and compliance with SHS standards and best practice compliance at all times
- Work within required time frames, particularly with respect to meeting deadlines with reports
- Contribute to the development of the program and CQI strategies and outcomes
- Commitment to completion of annual mandatory training requirements
- Exercise due diligence to prevent young people being exposed to harm
Selection Criteria, includes but is not limited to:
Qualifications:
- Cert IV in Youth Work or Community Services or related field
Experience:
- At least 1 years’ experience of working within a case management or Intake role with young People
- Experience in data systems if preferred
Skills and knowledge:
- Develop the confidence of staff and other stakeholders in Youth Off The Streets through consistent action, values and communication.
- Demonstrate a high standard of professionalism and always act in the best interest of Youth Off The Streets and its young people
- Comply with the standards set by the Code of Conduct and Child Safe Code of Conduct
- Report any observations or concerns you may have about possible breaches of the Child Safety Code of Conduct, to your Team Leader, Manager or HR
- Maintain privacy and confidentiality at all times
- Strong commitment to professional boundaries and relationships
- Strong negotiation, conflict resolution, communication and mediation skills
- Demonstrated ability to advocate on behalf of the Young People and/or family in accordance with organisational goals
- Relationship building skills, coupled with the ability to act empathetically, with sensitivity and understanding
- A broad understanding of both issues faced by Young People and their families, as well as ways to assist with and solve these issues
- Commitment to continual professional development
- Strong understanding of the Child Safe principles, policies and responsibilities
- Awareness of risk factors associated with abuse and neglect of children and young people
- Previous experiencre using SHS CIMS Service Records System is preferred, but not essential.

About Youth Off The Streets
Youth Off The Streets is a non-denominational community organisation working for disadvantaged young people who may be homeless, drug dependent and/or recovering from abuse. Youth Off The Streets supports these young people as they work to turn their lives around and overcome immense personal trauma such as neglect, physical, psychological and/or emotional abuse.
It is our goal that these young people will leave our care drug free, with a high school education, living skills and a full-time or part time job in hand.
