The role of the Work Health and Safety (WHS) Advisor, located in Eight Mile Plains, is to work closely with the Manager Safety to ensure the effective implementation, coordination and ongoing continuous improvement of Vertaview Groups health and safety framework.

Through early intervention, this role will be instrumental in achieving organisational objectives that will ensure our commitment to meeting legislative and relevant industry specific requirements for Vertaview Group’s subsidiaries.

The WHS Advisor will support the coordination of the WHS risk management process and be the subject matter expert for the WHS systems and education for system users.

Your day-to-day responsibilities may include:

  • Offering expert advice and guidance to all managers and workers on WHS-related issues and ensure they meet their obligations under WHS legislation.
  • Researching and provide interpretation and updates regarding changes and introduction of new Work Health & Safety legislation, regulations and practices.
  • Identifying, developing, implementing and maintaining new Work Health & Safety policies, procedures and programs to meet organisational needs.
  • Working with the Manager Safety to identify worker incident trends, proactively acting to manage areas of risk.
  • Collaborating with the Injury Management Advisor to support return-to-work and wellness activities, ensuring smooth processes for injured workers.
  • Providing comprehensive written reports based on findings and recommendations of completed risk assessments and WHS site inspections.
  • Implementation and maintenance of site-based Emergency Management and Business Continuity plans.

You should be someone who brings:

  • A positive attitude towards people with disabilities and the willingness to work within our Values and Code of Conduct to meet our customer’s needs.
  • Experience of effectively supporting the development and implementation of robust safety management processes in a complex organisation.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience of safety management within the human services sector.
  • The ability to lead and manage change in an environment of continuous improvement and to ensure the achievement of best practice management systems in safety management.
  • Contemporary knowledge of policy, legislation and reform agenda in WHS and incident management.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement/management skills with well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong influencing, decision making and negotiation skills.
  • High level communication skills, including the ability to motivate, inspire, influence, persuade and present.

The successful applicant will be required to hold or be willing to obtain;

  • Cert IV in Work Health and Safety and or relevant industry qualification and / or experience
  • Previous experience and demonstrated skills, including the ability to ensure compliance with legislation, standards and policies/procedures.
  • NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (Yellow Card)– or be willing to obtain.
  • Working with Children Check (Blue card) – or be willing to obtain.
  • Current driver’s licence
