Therapeutic Advisor- Part time role (2 days a week)

Do you have experience working in a therapeutic environment, leading practice and delivering strength based behavioural interventions? Do you have a passion for understanding and working with young people who have a trauma background?

In this role you will provide client centered, strengths based therapeutic behaviour support to young people between the ages of 16-24 years in our Group Homes and Community based Independent living programs. You will assist client facing staff in their therapeutic practice by providing a space for reflection, supervision and coaching. This role is currently 2 days a week with an aim for an increase in hours in line with organisational expansion.

About Stepping Stone House

Stepping Stone House is a not for profit charity that provides accommodation and personal development for children and young people aged 12-24 years old who through no fault of their own find themselves homeless, at risk of homelessness or unable to live at home. It is an accredited out of home care residential service providing medium to long term accommodation across three homes in Sydney. Furthermore, it provides after care support to graduates up to 30 years of age. At Stepping Stone House we encourage personal growth and development of children and young people with the aim of empowering the individual to achieve responsible independence.

Ideal candidate

To be successful in this challenging role – you will need to be hard working, be flexible in your approach, enthusiastic and show empathy, patience and respect for the people you work with. You will need to be a self- starter, be honest in your approach and have passion for working with adolescents.

What you will be doing – Key responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and oversee the delivery of effective strengths based therapeutic behaviour support plans
  • Mentor and advise client facing staff in their therapeutic practice through group and 1:1 supervisions
  • Oversight of restrictive practice utilized in the organization through membership on the restrictive practice panel
  • Review and oversight of high and critical incidents with an aim to monitor trends and provide feedback and support to the staff teams
  • Develop rapport and meaningful relationships with the young people
  • Attendance and therapeutic guidance given at staff meetings

Selection Criteria – candidates must address the essential and desirable selection criteria below with their application

Essential Criteria

  • Relevant qualifications in the social sciences (e.g. social work, psychology)
  • Further continuous professional development in the therapeutic field.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a therapeutic setting
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of the impact of trauma and trauma Informed Care
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in designing, implementing and reviewing of strengths based therapeutic behaviour support plans
  • Experience working from a best practice research led perspective
  • Evidence of collaborative working style and ability to build good working relationships in a team and with external agencies
  • Working with Children Certification
  • A current driver’s license

Desirable criteria

  • TCI (Therapeutic crisis intervention) training
  • Experience working with disadvantaged young people 12 to 25 years, preferably in a residential or community support setting or similar field
  • Knowledge of the ARC (Attachment, Regulation and Competency) model of care
  • Experience working with Out of Home Care client facing services
  • Experience working with adolescence
  • Knowledge of legislative, governance and accreditation requirements for residential services
  • Successful team work track record
  • Experience with staff supervision, coaching and reflective practice

Salary and Conditions of employment are based on the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award Salary packaging is available- Salary will be $40-$45 p/h taking into consideration level of qualification and experience.
