Life at Mission Australia
When you join the team at Mission Australia, you become part of a community who are determined to end homelessness and ensure people in need can thrive. United by our Christian purpose and values, we stand together with anyone who needs us, for as long as they need us. Find out more about us and our purpose.
Your Opportunity
Our Integrated Homelessness Supported Accommodation Program (IHSAP) also known around the region as "Batten Road", is a collaboration of complementary services and agencies that have established co-located specialist supports such as Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drug, Specialist Family Support and other specialist homelessness providers working together to support our communities homeless population. Mission Australia provides client support and engagement, and case coordination services for people who are living at the facility.
As a Tenancy Support Coordinator, you will address the complex and dynamic needs of our clients, managing a high caseload of up to 25 clients, and advocate for their housing stability amidst challenges like limited housing availability. The goal is to equip our clients with the skills and resources needed to manage their tenancies successfully while offering ongoing support while living onsite until external tenancies are secured. Further supporting them through the transition from homelessness or unstable housing to public housing.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement culturally appropriate, strengths-based case management plans tailored to individual client needs.
- Provide person-centred case management and conduct regular reviews to monitor progress against case plans.
- Advocate for clients with internal and external stakeholders, including Territory Housing, to secure and maintain stable housing.
- Facilitate referrals and coordinate support services to address clients' broader needs, such as mental health, AOD, or employment services.
- Manage comprehensive client records and prepare accurate reports, statistics, and reviews in line with organisational and program requirements.
- Support clients in capacity-building activities to enhance their ability to independently manage tenancies, including budgeting, home maintenance, and accessing resources.
- Attend and actively participate in local network meetings to strengthen collaborative partnerships with government and non-government organisations.
Requirements for Success
With proven experience in case management, ideally in housing or homelessness services sectors, you will be confident in your assessment processes and ability to manage complex client needs effectively. Other requirements include:
- Strong understanding of Aboriginal cultural systems and protocols and the ability to deliver culturally safe and responsive services.
- Relevant qualifications in social sciences or human services (Diploma or Degree preferred) and/or substantial experience in the field.
- Demonstrated ability to engage and motivate clients facing multiple barriers to tenancy.
- Proficiency in computer systems, data management, and administrative tasks, including preparing reports and maintaining detailed client records.
- A person-centred, professional approach with excellent communication skills and a commitment to fostering long-term client recovery and independence.
- A valid Northern Territory Driver's Licence and the ability to provide outreach and transport support for clients.
Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
