Then consider being a Team Manager and lead a team of Senior Disability Advocates within our Disability Advocacy Support Helpline (Helpline) team; an initiative under Australia’s Disability Strategy 2021-2031 aimed at improving access to individual advocacy. The Helpline provides time-limited remote advocacy support for people with disability experiencing unfair treatment, helping them understand and assert their rights. Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the Helpline team, whilst working side-by-side with people with disability to support them through their journey of navigating legal and social systems to achieve fairer outcomes.
This role will be based in either Newcastle, Parramatta or Valley Heights, depending on the successful applicant.

- Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services (SCHADS), Level 7.1 ($130,021.71 pa full-time package inc. superannuation) - 7.3 ($135,447.65 pa full-time package inc. superannuation) depending on qualifications and experience.
About the role
This role is responsible for the management, leadership and development of a team of Senior Disability Advocates as well as the delivery of the day to day operational requirements of the Helpline service.
With a focus on best practice, you will support the team, and the organisation more broadly, to achieve operational objectives through the on-going development of your team, acting as an escalation point for complex matters as well as providing a transparent, supportive and action oriented approach to both people management and the advocacy services you and your team provide.
This is a full-time role, responsible for managing the following key responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the day to day delivery of the disability advocacy services for the Helpline team including complaints management, intake and assessment and service delivery.
- Provide ongoing management, support and development to your team and foster a culture in line with ALA’s values of Courageous, Caring, Creative and Connected.
- Ensure the team delivers high-quality advocacy support through regular supervision, case reviews, and feedback-focused coaching.
- Provide advice, guidance, and recommendations to the team you support and stay abreast of emerging trends and changes in disability advocacy, ensuring your team remains at the forefront of best practices.
- Manage an active caseload as well as act as an escalation point for complex cases within the Helpline.
- Work collaboratively with the broader ALA team to ensure compliance with audits, relevant policy, procedures and guidelines as well as all regulatory requirements.
- Manage performance, set goals and deliver professional reporting regarding your service deliverables.
About you
We are looking for an experienced and proactive people leader.
In your application, you must address the following Selection Criteria:
- Proven experience in a similar role
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams effectively in a complex service environment
- Proven success in improving service delivery to achieve excellent outcomes for clients and the organisation
- Proven knowledge and understanding of key disability issues
- Demonstrated experience and skills in advocating for people from disadvantaged backgrounds, including people with disability
- Ability to effectively deal with multiple stakeholders, including regulatory and industry bodies
- Excellent communication and influencing skills including strong assessment and judgement skills
- Proven experience in undertaking activities that contribute to meeting an organisation's objective and plans
- Tertiary qualifications in legal studies, social work, social science, psychology, community services, or similar
