The Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Building Supervisor to join our team in Hobart, Tasmania. This role offers a unique opportunity for an experienced tradesperson looking to transition into a supervisory position, combining both office and field-based responsibilities. The successful candidate will manage and oversee building maintenance within the welfare housing industry and ensure work is completed on time, to budget, and in compliance with all relevant building codes and client expectations.
Responsibilities include:
- Supervise and coordinate the work of tradespeople on-site, ensuring that projects meet quality standards and are completed within established timelines.
- Prepare accurate quotes and estimates for building maintenance and repair works.
- Effectively manage time and resources, balancing office-based administrative duties with on-site supervision and field tasks.
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of welfare housing properties, ensuring work is completed to the required standard.
- Ensure all work complies with building codes, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
- Maintain strong communication with clients, stakeholders, and team members, providing regular updates and addressing any concerns promptly.
- Perform office-based tasks such as reporting, documentation, and tracking project progress, using Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook).

- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with a variety of clients, contractors, and team members in an empathetic and understanding manner.
OTHER ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITES
- Lead by example and promote a positive work environment
- Mentor team members in correct work practices and identify training and development opportunities.
- Provide training and support to team and direct reports to correctly complete system and paperwork requirements to ensure Contact Group, client and contractual expectations are met.
- Conduct regular performance reviews of direct reports and manage any issues if required.
- Escalate any identified performance issues to the relevant manager
EDUCATION
- Building Licence (current and valid) preferred.
- Driver's Licence (current and valid)
- Working with Venerable People & Police Check (or ability to obtain)
- Experience in hands-on trade work (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, electrical) with a strong understanding of maintenance processes.
- Familiarity with welfare housing projects or similar construction and maintenance sectors.
EXPERIENCE
- Background in welfare housing or social housing projects.
- Experience preparing quotes and estimates for maintenance and repair work.
- Ability to transition from a hands-on trade role to a supervisory and office-based position.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position is a mix of field and office based.

$89,552.00 - $97,693.00 (EBA Level rate negotiated commensurate with experience)
