Based a few hours’ drive from Brisbane in the scenic South Burnett region of Queensland is an established GFSI certified food manufacturer who supplies quality products to the domestic and international retail and wholesale markets.

An opportunity is available for an experienced and highly motivated Technical Manager to join the senior leadership team and take responsibility for quality, compliance and food safety.

Working collaboratively with senior management this opportunity requires strong knowledge of food science and technology, demonstrated experience leading quality audits to GFSI standards, and an approachable leadership style. the ability to strategically contribute to the business. To help you achieve this you will have the support from senior management, access to product specific technical resources, and a small team to manage and develop.

Typical duties include:

  • Provide guidance, training and leadership to the team to ensure strategic business objectives are met.
  • Successfully lead GFSI, second- and third-party audits.
  • Ensure production documentation is compliant for audits and export requirements.
  • Conduct GMP walks and toolbox talks to ensure adherence to standard operating procedures.
  • Investigate and respond to customer complaints and audit non-conformances in a timely manner.
  • Promote a positive and productive work environment and a staff culture that is unconsciously quality focused, and safety minded.
  • Manage new product development projects from research and development stage to product launch.
  • Develop & implement HACCP plans for new products and review quality assurance processes to ensure the production of products are safe and to specification.
  • Ensure compliance to local government and environmental protection legislation.
  • Oversee the WHS function to ensure a safe and compliant work environment, with a focus on reducing risks and maintaining a strong safety culture.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvements and contribute to the strategic direction of the business.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed (e.g. commissioning of new lines due to business growth and expansion)

The following requirements will ensure your success:

  • Qualifications in Science - food science and technology preferred or a related field such as microbiology, chemistry or viticulture or oenology is highly advantageous.
  • Proven experience as a Quality Assurance Manager, Quality team leader, Coordinator or Supervisor within a food manufacturing environment.
  • Successful experience leading GFSI, second and third-party audits such as BRC, SQF, FSSC22000, WSEP, CFMSR etc. is mandatory.
  • Experience managing compliance for export is highly regarded.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively train others.
  • Certification in the Principles and Applications of HACCP is highly regarded.
  • Experience in continuous improvement processes and problem-solving within a food production environment.
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills.
