The Role
AIM is an innovative deep-tech startup focused on developing advanced high-power laser systems to protect against weaponized drones. We are seeking a proactive, solutions-driven Facilities Manager to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in maintaining smooth operations behind the scenes, with a sharp eye for detail and a focus on efficiency. The Facilities Manager will be responsible for ensuring the seamless functioning of our facility, playing a critical role in supporting the company's mission to develop cutting-edge products and systems for the next generation of defence technology.
What You’ll do
- Proficient in facilities management and workplace safety, ensuring a safe and efficient working environment.
- Oversee service providers, including fire safety systems, mechanical services, real estate agents and trades.
- Experienced in vendor management, including evaluating performance and maintaining strong relationships with service providers.
- Skilled in building and maintaining relationships with staff, clients, and external vendors.
- Proven track record of successfully leading and completing projects on time and within budget.
- Manage minor works and tenancy fit outs as needed, ensuring smooth execution.
- Support procurement, logistics coordination to ensure operational efficiency.
- Serve as the main point of contact (POC) for all stakeholders related to building operations.
- Assist in identifying and implementing systems and processes that enhance overall operational efficiency of the facility.
- Oversee site-specific access control, security system management, and key management to ensure the safety and security of the premises
What You’ll bring
- Experience: Over 4 years of experience in facilities or building management, preferably within the technology, manufacturing, or defence sectors, with a solid understanding of Australian WHS practices.
- Trade Background: A background in Mechanical or Electrical services, along with project management experience, is preferred but not essential.
- Service Contract Management: Proven experience in managing service contracts, ensuring quality and compliance.
- Time Management & Organisation: Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Discretion & Professionalism: Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism.
- Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while remaining flexible to meet the evolving needs of the organisation.
- Multi-tasking & Collaboration: Ability to manage multiple priorities independently while working effectively as part of a wider team.
What you need to know

- This role is required onsite, with flexibility to select working days and hours, in line with supporting Company policies and procedures.
- AIM is an ‘all hands’ company and will require support for other Operational areas, as the requirements grow with the company.
