As part of our Social, Emotional and Wellbeing (SEWB) program, the SEWB Worker - Children and Young People is responsible for supporting and encouraging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people.
The SEWB Worker - Children and Young People will also be responsible for working in collaboration with and coordinating service providers on behalf of our children and young people where the opportunity arises and will need to be competent in non-clinical assessment of what those needs might be.
Key Responsibilities
- Connect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people to DWECH and other services to increase their sense of belonging and engagement with their community and culture.
- Provide information, support referrals to other services and advocate for children and young people in our programs to ensure they are getting the best opportunities and skills for life.
- Undertake case management including assessment, brief intervention, care planning, referrals and follow up in collaboration with SEWB clients and other relevant stakeholders, including family, mental health services, alcohol and other drug services, GP’s, clinical and community services to allow clients to access relevant support services.
- Plan and facilitate group workshops around a range of issues such as mental, emotional and physical wellbeing with the understanding that they are all connected to provide the best outcome for our children and young people.
- Plan and deliver high quality and engaging recreational activities to foster strong cultural and community connectedness.
- Provide a safe space for Aboriginal children and young people to learn about and practice their culture.
- Coordinate and deliver workshops that set our children and young people up with the resources required to develop premium life skills such as independence, leadership, resilience and quality decision making for their success.
- Provide them with pathways to identifying and accessing education, training and career pathways.
- Ensure that accurate and timely record keeping and databases as per DWECH and industry requirements.
- Assist and support the SEWB Manager and other SEWB functional areas in various aspects of the programs we offer and deliver.
Key Requirements
- Certificate IV or higher in Children and young people Work, Community Services or equivalent.
- Previous experience working with young people, particularly those from diverse backgrounds and with complex needs.
- Knowledge of issues affecting children and young people, including mental health, substance abuse, family dynamics, and cultural considerations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with young people.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive and compassionate approach to children and young people support.
- Understanding of and commitment to principles of social justice, equality, and cultural competence.
- National Police Check or the willingness to obtain within employer specified timeframe.
- Working with Children Check or the willingness to obtain within employer specified timeframe.
- Must be willing to undertake training and professional development.
- Annual First Aid and CPR training where the role requires.
- Emergency Management training where the role requires.
- Current Victorian Driver’s License.
- Proof of vaccination status consistent with public health orders and with DWECH policy.
