St John of God Langmore Centre is a newly refurbished 60-bed private mental health hospital in Berwick providing a supportive, respectful and relaxed environment that promotes wellbeing and recovery. Our multidisciplinary team provide expert psychiatric care and treatment for conditions including depression, mood disorders, anxiety and psychosis through programs tailored to meet your patient's individual needs, including inpatient and day programs.

Your role at St John of God Langmore Centre
The Associate Nurse Unit Manager acts as a responsible and effective mental health team member, assists in the overall clinical management of the ward, is responsible for the provision of comprehensive patient care and supervision of care given by junior staff in accordance with the Nurses and Midwifery Board of Australia Scope of Practice and deputises for and assists the Nursing Unit Manager.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse, experienced in delivery of PTSD and Trauma services to be instrumental in the development and delivery of a new program at Langmore Centre.

You will participate in direct patient care and assists the Nurse Manager with supervision and management duties ensuring all ward activities are in accordance with the ongoing Mission, Philosophy and Values of the St John of God Health Care System and the Philosophy and objectives of the Nursing Division, St John of God Health Care.

This is a Permanent Full-time role: 76 hours per fortnight, spread across 8 working days.

The Position

  • Takes a trauma-informed approach to care delivery
  • In a spirit of hospitality and compassion, interviews and examines the patient, and documents the assessment findings on admission.
  • Whilst promoting an atmosphere of confidence, confidentiality and respect, identify through discussion with the patient, family and relevant others, actual and potential problems.
  • Assesses and documents the anticipated needs of the patient and family during and following hospitalization and recovery period.
  • Routinely monitors the results of diagnostic procedures and investigations.
  • Assesses the immediate ward environment to ensure the safety of all hospital personnel, patients and visitors.
  • Documents the planned nursing care and ensures the holistic care/recovery plan remains current.
  • Organises and delegates duties to the units nursing caregivers taking into consideration the patients needs and the nurses level of experience/training.
  • Guides nursing caregivers, students and Graduate Nurses plan patient care - taking this

You will have a registration with Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse and post Graduate Mental Health qualification or equivalent with advanced clinical skills, knowledge and experience in the areas of Mental Health, trauma and Dual Diagnosis nursing.

To succeed you will have the sound interpersonal skills and the ability to conduct relevant risk assessments including mental health risk assessment, mental state examinations and Drug and Alcohol assessments and effectively communicate and educate patients, family and staff.

Being available to work for permanent night shifts is essential to this position.
