Warringu is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation governed by a community Board of Directors. The Board sets and oversees the Organisations strategic direction. Warringu provides a specific range of services to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children impacted by family violence and homelessness both in Cairns and from surrounding areas including Yarrabah, the Atherton Tablelands, Cape York communities and the Torres Strait. We do not preclude women of any ethnicity or location from accessing our Service when in need.
About the role
Warringu Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation is seeking an experienced Finance Officer (Consultant) to join their team in Cairns, Queensland on a contract basis 2 days per week. In this role, you will be responsible for providing high-quality financial services and support to the organisation.
What you'll be doing
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations (GST, BAS, IAS, PAYG) and prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including BAS and Activity Statements.
- Process and record accounts payable/receivable, ensure timely invoices and payments, and manage debtor accounts, including follow-ups on overdue payments.
- Reconcile bank statements monthly, manage transactions between funding budgets, and oversee Centrepay account management including Occupancy data/Emergency Relief and Centerpay payment statements via the Centrelink portal.
- Maintain accurate financial documentation to meet audit standards and provide support for internal and external audits, ensuring required reports are submitted including providing recommendations for improving financial efficiency.
- Backup support to HR Officer in times of absence, ensuring payroll processing deadlines are met.
- Provide training and support on MYOB software to team members and collaborate with colleagues to deliver high-quality service to the community.
What we're looking for
- Strong understanding of Australian financial regulations and payroll systems
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Skilled in using MYOB AccountRight for bookkeeping, payroll, budgeting, and tax compliance.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and confidentiality in financial management.
- Position Requirements & Qualifications:
- Tertiary qualification in Finance, Business, or a related field, or relevant experience in a similar role preferably within the human service industry
- Current driver’s license
- Blue Card – Suitability for Child Related Employment
