We are looking for an experienced and motivated Venue Manager to take the reins of our quirky and energetic Japanese Restaurant, Chotto Motto, in Collingwood. We’re after a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, has a passion for hospitality, and knows how to build and manage a high-performing team.

About the Role

As Venue Manager, you’ll be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our venue, ensuring a high standard of service, smooth workflow, and a great customer experience. You’ll work on the floor five nights a week, leading by example and making sure everything runs seamlessly – from service and stock management to staffing and compliance.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who isn’t afraid to get involved, support the team, and drive operational success.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Management

  • Oversee daily venue operations, including bar, floor, and overall service standards.
  • Work on the floor five nights a week, ensuring smooth and efficient service.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and workflows to enhance operations.
  • Manage stock levels, place orders, receive deliveries, and minimize wastage.
  • Ensure venue maintenance, cleanliness, and overall presentation standards.
  • Oversee reservations, floor plans, and event setups to maximize capacity and service flow.
  • Perform cash reconciliations, oversee tills, and ensure correct tip distribution.
  • Manage opening and closing procedures, including security and system shutdowns.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot POS systems, printers, and venue technology to prevent disruptions.

Staff Management

  • Hire and train floor staff and collaborate with the Bar Supervisor to recruit and train bar staff.
  • Create and manage staff rosters to optimize efficiency, labor costs, and team productivity.
  • Conduct performance reviews, coaching, and address any staff concerns.
  • Foster a positive, supportive, and accountable team culture.
  • Lead daily pre-service meetings, ensuring staff alignment on priorities and service standards.
  • Mediate staff disputes and proactively manage team dynamics.

Customer Service & Experience

  • Set and maintain high service standards across all areas of the venue.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for customer concerns, ensuring quick and effective resolutions.
  • Build relationships with regular customers and enhance guest loyalty.
  • Monitor service quality and food/beverage presentation for consistency.
  • Manage customer communication, including emails and phone inquiries.

Compliance & Safety

  • Enforce RSA policies and ensure adherence to liquor licensing laws.
  • Maintain health, safety, and hygiene standards across the venue.
  • Conduct regular maintenance checks and coordinate repairs as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations and provide staff training on safety procedures.
  • Oversee license and permit renewals, ensuring all documentation is up to date.

Strategy & Growth

  • Develop and implement strategies to improve efficiency, customer satisfaction, and profitability.
  • Identify opportunities for growth and present actionable solutions to improve venue performance.
  • Collaborating closely with business owners to drive long-term success.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience as a Venue Manager or in a similar leadership role.
  • Strong hospitality leadership skills with a hands-on approach.
  • Excellent team management and communication abilities.
  • Proven experience in roster management, stock control, and cash handling.
  • Knowledge of RSA, liquor licensing, and workplace safety regulations.
  • A problem solver with a proactive and adaptable mindset.
  • Experience with POS systems and venue technology troubleshooting.
