Covering an area of 186,300 hectares, Doomadgee is located on the Nicholson River in the far north-western corner of Queensland, near the Gulf of Carpentaria.

The Waanyi and Gangalidda people are recognised as the traditional owners for the region, which is a Deed of Grant in Trust community governed by the Dooomadgee Aboriginal Shire Council.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people make up 93.7 percent of the population of approximately 1400 people.

Doomadgee Hospital is a Level two (2) remote hospital under the Rural and Remote Clinical Services Capability Framework with seven (7) inpatient beds. The facility provides 24 hour acute inpatient and accident and emergency care including a General Practice clinic. Culturally appropriate care is provided by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers, nursing, medical, administration and operational staff working as a team to achieve optimal patient care.

About the role

Provide Reception duties (both telephone and face to face contact) in accordance with relevant task list and may include switchboard, answering enquiries, arranging appointments and bookings, and the ability to provide assistance and advice to the staff and the public regarding the organisation of the health service.

Be part of a team that actively contributes to patient safety by following policies, procedures and protocols of the North West Hospital and Health Service.

Support continued improvement of health services by always participating in quality improvement opportunities.

Requirements

  • Pre-employment screening will be conducted for the successful applicant, including Criminal History checks.
  • This is a VPD risk role and may require evidence of vaccination or immunity to: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis, and Tuberculosis.
  • A period of probation may apply.
