The Queensland Council for LGBTI Health (QC), and 2Spirits are united in a statewide mission to enhance the health and wellbeing of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Sistergirl, and Brotherboy people and communities across Queensland.
Since its formation in 1984, QC has been dedicated to delivering peer-led, community-based health services and health promotion initiatives, benefiting from funding from Local, State, and Commonwealth Governments, as well as the invaluable support of volunteers, donors, and broader community members.
2Spirits, since 1996, has been committed to cultivating pathways that foster partnership with agencies and community organisations, with a focus on the health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBTIQ+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy people.
Together, QC and 2Spirits work to create safe, culturally appropriate, and accessible environments, free from discrimination and stigma, where individuals can make informed health, wellbeing, and lifestyle choices. This partnership is responsive to critical issues such as health, wellbeing, HIV/AIDS, people living with HIV (PLHIV),alcohol and other drugs, as well as youth and ageing within our LGBTIQ+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander LGBTIQ+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy communities.

Your position summary
The Ageing Lead will provide people leadership and subject matter expertise for a dedicated team to advocate for and support older people in the LGBTIQ+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy communities. This role will support a team across several sites to facilitate access to aged care services, assist with navigation of the aged care system, and connect individuals for social support and with local opportunities, events, and services. The position aims to strengthen partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, improving accessibility and reducing barriers for LGBTI older people and their families.
This position is an integral member of the QC staff team responsible for the coordination and support of all premises, programs and events to contribute to better outcomes for our older Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Intersex, Sistergirl and Brotherboy communities in Queensland.
Your team – Client Services
Contribution: The Client Services team is the cornerstone of all our client-facing services. It is a multi-disciplinary team of physiological, mental health, and support practitioners, and community engagement specialists. Our role is vital in QC by providing high-quality, judgment-free health and well-being services and community support to our communities.
Key strategies:
The team oversees the Community Visitors Scheme, Aged Care Systems Navigator program supporting and advocating for Aged Care Systems access, recognizing the special needs of LGBTI Sistergirl and Brotherboy Domestic Violence issues, and Silver Rainbow project activities.
We offer easy access to clinicians for a full sexual health screen and other services and value non-judgmental communication between client and doctor to achieve the best possible outcomes for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Sistergirl, and Brotherboy people, supported by strong clinical processes to ensure we can continue to offer safe, effective, and RACGP Accredited services.
We work to enhance the Health and Social and Emotional wellbeing of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Sistergirl, and Brotherboy people in Queensland. We value connection to community and see this as an essential part of how we reach and work with our communities.
We provide culturally and appropriate access to wellbeing programs, social connection, and access points to services that are more vital than ever to achieve the wellbeing outcomes that our communities are entitled to.
We work closely with community partners to ensure our services are responsive to the evolving needs of our community.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership and Team Management:
- Lead and manage a team of staff and volunteers, ensuring they meet shared objectives and are supported to create warm and affirming places of care and support for our Ageing Community members.
- Develop and implement operational frameworks, processes, and risk assessments.
- Support staff through coaching and capacity building, ensuring a collaborative team environment.
2. Advocacy and Support:
- Provide direct assistance to older LGBTIQ+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy people and their families in navigating the aged care system as needed.
- Advocate for increased accessibility and equality in aged care services.
- Facilitate the connection of clients to community resources, programs, and opportunities.
3. Partnership and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including service providers, community organisations, and government agencies.
- Work with stakeholders to identify and reduce barriers to aged care services for LGBTI seniors.
- Ensure effective communication and liaison with stakeholders to resolve issues and enhance service delivery.
4. Community Education and Engagement:
- Facilitate community information and education sessions on topics relevant to aged care and elder support.
- Coach and upskill both individuals and groups to empower them with the knowledge needed to navigate services and resources.
5. Program Development and Improvement:
- Identify gaps in service provision and work with stakeholders to improve access for older LGBTIQ+ individuals.
- Regularly review and evaluate programs to ensure they meet the needs of the community.
- Prepare reports, evaluations, and recommendations to improve service delivery and access.
- Work within approved budget and provide input into the development of annual budgets and grant submissions for the ageing portfolio.

About You:
Qualifications:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications (Degree or Diploma) in health, social services, or related field
- Substantial experience in providing information, linking, and advocacy services for older people, preferably in the LGBTIQA+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy space.
- Demonstrated ability to develop operational frameworks, conduct risk assessments, and manage programs in a community or health services setting.
- Proven leadership skills with experience in managing teams to achieve shared objectives within timeframes.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience facilitating community education sessions and providing coaching to individuals and groups.
- Demonstrated ability to identify service gaps, analyse program effectiveness, and implement improvements, particularly within the context of working with older LGBTIQ+ individuals.
