Great Barrier Reef and Marine Parks (GBR&MP) Region are excited to share an incredible opportunity for a Ranger In Charge to join the team on a temporary basis from 11th March 2025 - 27th June 2025.
As one of the six regions of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, the GBR&MP Region delivers conservation and management activities across land and sea including implementing the Reef Joint Field Management Program.
As a Ranger In Charge, you'll lead a team dedicated to preserving the reef's marine and island parks, while building strong relationships with First Nations people. Your days will be varied, from educating visitors and conducting fire management to diving, vessel operations, and report writing. Strong leadership and communication skills will help you manage evolving priorities and balance outdoor tasks like patrols and seabird surveys with office work like staff assessments.
You'll face both familiar and complex challenges, growing your conservation and leadership skills daily. Supported by training programs, there are excellent opportunities for career progression. You'll also build relationships with Traditional Owners and various agencies while promoting a positive, inclusive team culture.
Role focus:
• Lead and manage a team to implement work plans, projects, and park management initiatives.
• Develop and oversee annual work programs, budgets, and resource allocation for infrastructure and maintenance.
• Manage park infrastructure, fire management, weed and pest control, and other resource management projects.
• Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, lead customer interactions, and handle compliance, enforcement, and emergency response activities.
To be considered you must hold the following qualifications:
• an unrestricted manual driver's licence
There are no mandatory qualifications required to undertake this position, however a Coxswain NSCV1 licence is highly desirable
